Tried to bomb by daylight, our bombers were hacked out of the skies. Switched to bombing by night, could not hit precision targets (A bomb that landed within 5 miles of it's target was considered accurate) Area or carpet bombing was the only way we could hurt the Germans. 80,000 plus British and Commonwealth bomber crew members lost their lives in the conflict. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ReginaldD Posted August 10, 2019 Share Posted August 10, 2019 Bruce fair play to him identified the gaps/ needs of the squad many of us have highlighted over the last few years. We've been crying out for more pace for years, pace makes a huge difference and in itself can change a game. The great thing about Harris and Murphy they're not just pacey but appear to have good all round attacking qualities too. If we can keep them both fit I'm very excited for the rest of the season. It was my main gripe with him along with not wanting any height and steel in midfield. Its taken so long to undo some of the carbon copy recruitment and it’s been difficult seeing other sides like derby Villa and Norwich with fullbacks and wingers causing all sorts of problems but thankfully we’ve got back on a par. I also think you don’t need to be as good technically to win a game when you’ve got those outlets. Nobody criticises the Yanks for bombing the S H I T out of Germany but we criticise our guys for doing it. Nobody complained then when we were fighting to free Europe but now people get all sanctimonious. Yes it was awful but it needed doing. Deliberate targeting of civilians (even in the most anti-Nazi regions like Dresden) with incendiary devices which were designed to ignite fires above shelters so victims would burn to death in their cellars. Not so much. You shouldn’t adopt Hitlerian methods to beat Hitler particularly when the civilian bombing campaign did very little to aid victory and took men and resources away from other theatres like the Mediterranean.
