On a different note....

Great manager and a wonderful fella. Lost his nerve in the championship after the wolves friendly pre season when he realised we were miles short compared to rest of the league. He reverted to players he knew and defensive tactics to try and get out of it.

That team was a really nicely balanced team but I maintain we wouldn’t have got up without the loan players. O Brien, Jones, rocastle, Bruce, Quinn were immense that season.

Forgot about Joey, another player who was linked with us every year for about 5 years

Right manager, right time. Certain managers fit the club. Brian Laws was the same.

Yep.

My main memories of the promotion season were that we weren't all that, but seemed to pull results together when we needed to. A run over Christmas/January, beating Hull away when were clinging onto the top 6 etc. Followed by real struggles in the Championship.

But he got us up when we needed it. I stand by that I think a third season in League One at that time might have killed the club as we know it, so Cardiff is all that matters.

Cardiff was the positive - and the run to get there - UNREAL!

Match after he was sacked was the negative - flew home for the game - whole ground was singing “Allen is awanker!”  I’m called Alan :duntmatter:

Top manager.

That day out in Cardiff will live forever in my memory.

Mainly because we were sat right next to the press box, and I got Big Ron to sign my programme with the fattest black marker pen you've ever seen - which I didn't give time to dry before I closed my programme.

Which resulted in it looking like summat my 3 year daughter made at nursery.

lol

Decent manager.

He was a bit of a promotion specialist from that division and I remember his Plymouth team giving us an absolute whooping the season before.

Probably a bit too negative when we got to the Championship, but he wasn't exactly blessed with the greatest crop of players. Sure I went to game at Coventry (A) and we had Bullen in a front three.

Still - we have had far worse managers and he deffo has his part in SWFC history.

Quinn immense......you are joking aren’t you (or confusing James and Alan).....he’d give one of our current forwards competition for a place up front in our worst ever XI.....it’s as though he didn’t know the offside rule......constantly giving free kicks away, mainly for being offside

Brilliant manager, Cardiff will what he will be remembered for, but keeping the team up in the Championship the year after was probably a bigger achievement. Should have not been sacked as at the time we started the season with no fit strikers, which Laws benefited from once Tudgay/MacLean/ Burton got fit. Think his fall out with Allen was more to do with him being sacked as opposed to football results.
