SouthStand75 108
I don’t get how when an attacking player handballs it they give it, but a defender it isn’t given.

The rule is specifically for the attacking team. The weird thing is that nobody seems to know why the rule was brought in anyway. It doesn't seem to be fixing anything that was previously a problem. It's baffling.

The new rule states that the goal must be disallowed if any player from the attacking team touches the ball in any way, deliberate or not, with their hand/arm in the build-up.

punkskaphil 5,402
From the 2019/20 New Laws of the Game (the changes that came into effect at the beginning of the season): The following ‘handball’ situations, even if accidental, will be a free kick: • the ball goes into the goal after touching an attacking player’s hand/arm • a player gains control/possession of the ball after it has touches their hand/arm and then scores, or creates a goal-scoring opportunity • the ball touches a player’s hand/arm which has made their body unnaturally bigger • the ball touches a player’s hand/arm when it is above their shoulder (unless the player has deliberately played the ball which then touches their hand/arm) Edited July 2, 2020 by punkskaphil
