How can we still be waiting for what should've been priority #1 to be solved?

Liam Palmer obviously isn't good enough at right-back, let alone on the wrong side, trying to use his standing foot!

But even playing out of position he's better than Fox.

Thorniley offers cover off the bench if there's an injury and we need to see a game out. But he's not mobile enough to be a starting LB and his crossing is only just better than Fox/Palmer's.

When is Penney back? He's probably too light-weight defensively, really. But he showed signs of being able to cross a ball. So, could he do a job there against weaker opposition?

(I see him more as back up for Harris if we revert to a 4-4-2 though really)

Is Odubajo going to make the switch once Iorfa's back? He's better than Palmer, but can another right-back really be a permanent solution?

Surely, we're going to sign an actual left back? Surely?!

If not, this is always going to be the ch_ ink in our armour and every opposition manager knows there's at least a goal or two available for them if they keep targeting that side.

Swear filter keeps taking out a word that is fine in the context I'm using it.

Were Reading exploiting it? I thought Palmer was pretty solid there last season, I know they're not great but his form got him a Scotland cap. I actually felt he was better there than he is at RB

We wanted Lazaar so they must have addressed it but I guess it's sometimes difficult to bring players in and due to Palmers form they feel it was less of a priority compared to other areas

Palmer can play left back, but having seen Odubajo and Iorfa play at right back, he’s probably needed on that side

If we sign Hector, Murphy, Luongo and a left back. That's a brilliant window or us.

If I had to choose between signing Murphy or signing a left back I would sign a left back.

A quality specialist left-back and we’ve got a very good back 5. It is a weak link as things stand though.

Agree, a lb is more important than hector given we have 6 who can play cb.

Winger and cm will hopefully be addressed but to balance us up we need a quick left footed lb for sure.

We need a pacy striker too imo with joao going, hopefully selling rhodes will help complete a top 6 rebuild

George Friend would be an excellent addition for LB

Borner an option at LB?

Palmer looks steady on the left side too.

Is Fox really that bad?

Penny overcome his injuries?

So players that can play left back or left wing back depending on the situation.

Palmer who was our best player after Hector whilst playing at left back

Fox - Who is better than the owlstalk mob believe

Penney who could really shine given game time

Thorniley who has done well there before

Reach who we signed as a left back

Borner who used to play there earlier in his career

Odubajo who we need to see more of

Iorfa could be switched as well as Palmer

Got to agree with you here.

We've had our debates over Palmer some time ago when I genuinely didn't think he was doing what is required of a full back at a top end Championship club.

However, last season he was excellent, really stepped up his game and is deserving of a place in the team.

There're nothing tired old or even Owlstalk related about it.

My view on Palmer's inability to play at a level required for a side looking to push for promotion is based on watching him play.

He might be OK as a squad player if we end up with a string of injuries mid-season, but he can't be our first choice left-back for the season, surely?!

Ok.

Not gonna get drawn into arguing again why Palmer is good enough- just that he is.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Nah.

For 1 season, if he manages for 2 I will be impressed.

Yes.

Nah.

Nah.

Borner played left back earlier in his career apparently, perhaps the plan was always for him to compete there and he's just filled in CD for us until Hector signs?

Think with the number of right backs we have in the squad, it's at least worth giving Palmer an extended shot on the left side. Not many players do well on their opposite side in the full back positions mind.

Sure he played behind closed doors this week, good sign. Can't be too far away from a return.

Palmer played well at Reading he got an assist. He is often accused of not getting assists well in first match of season he got one. he also had a couple of excellent runs forward including a shot at goal which was deflected narrowly wide. To complain about his performance is by those who like to moan for sake of it and when nothing obvious revert to an old favourite.

I expect Nuhiu thread and Dawson thread before weekend.

By the way dawson handling was spot on and he had quite a bit to do when coming on but was assured in what he did.
