Norwich Rhodes Bid

Recommended Posts

Thing is, we probably used to be a bit of a push over in the past regarding transfer fees etc when we’ve been in a financial mess. However, we aren’t that club any more, we don’t need to sell.

You want one of our players, give us a proper f.ucking offer.

Free? There's a cheeky bid and then there is taking the absolute wee wee.

Chansiri will be laughing his balls off.

Big saving on wages though circa £4-5 million

We'd still owe Boro 4mil for a player we no longer own. Forget it. Pay up or fookoff Norwich.

30+ goals this season. We have a squad that suits him now, with pace down both sides, KL bombing through the middle, and SF providing a hatful of knockdowns.

Selling our best players is not the right thing to do, if the club are serious about promotion.

Devils advocate .........

He’s arguably not in the first 16 names you’d want in the squad if fit currently

We won’t be anywhere near promotion realistically

Isn’t it best to get him off the wage bill??

Do they not understand how football finance works?

No matter what size his wage is, it is dwarfed by the amortisation  of his transfer fee. As far as I know, there is still two years left on that.

If he had one year left then it may make sense. One year of said amortisation would fall due in the season anyway so would make no difference to the accounts. Under those circumstances getting him off the wage bill would make some sense and save some money. But the moment he goes the full amount falls into one season of accounts.

For it to be worth letting him go for good, and then no longer be in our assets, the transfer fee has to be at least equal to the extra amount of amortisation that would fall due.

So perhaps a cheeky £2m bid would make sense, assuming he has 2 years left and £4m left on his fee. That would 'balance out' the money owed (since we are committed to £2m this season anyway) and would save money on wages.

In all seriousness, agreeing a two year loan deal for no fee but full wages would actually make more sense than letting him go for free. We'd still see the wage savings but wouldn't cause his remaining fee to instantly come due.
