Take a look at the teams in the championship and how many times they’ve changed their midfield over the last 4 years

we’ve got the same usual suspects (bannan, hutch, Lee) who have proved as a collective they ain’t good enough

Do you remember when Manchester City failed to win the league three years running?

It's hard to believe they didn't get rid of all their proven failures such as Aguero, Silva, De Bruyne, Komany and Sterling, isn't it?

:duntmatter:

Lee is a very good player, and our failure to win promotion under Carvalhal isn't because of him. Rather than let one of our best players leave for nothing, we could always add other players around him and try to build the best squad we can under the current circumstances.

What the fucketyfuck are Harris, Odubajo and the German lad?

Indeed - out of contract, but your right there may be some still out of work freebies still left in August.

Praying Keiran can get to how he was, we missed him the most.

But you did imply that he wssnt good enough to play for us if we want to get promoted because we haven't been promoted with him in previous seasons?

I honestly don’t think he is good enough, and neither is Hutch

If they were they wouldn’t have got outfought in the semi against Huddersfield, and the final against hull

Which ever way you want to spin it.  They're still new signings.  And obviously, the will have attracted no interest whatsoever from any other club.  Fornicate me.

We go into the season with no midfield recruitments.

As crazy as it sounds, on paper we had Abdi and Jones as cover in the centre, and these have left. We haven't strengthened this area at all - why is this, one week till the season kicks off? I don't buy the manager situation has stopped everything.

I can't imagine there's any decent freebies left, which leaves us with the loan market which is a total lottery.

I’m torn on this

I love Lee as a player, and we have really missed him

But I don’t think we’ve missed him as much as we missed Hooper and Wallace

For me, we always looked a better team when Hooper was playing

And as for Wallace, when he went off injured in the play offs, I knew we’d blown it

That's an entirely different debate.  Spin and deflection.  Are you a politician?

I was actually surprised at how fit he looked at the end of the season . Saw him in his 10 minute come back cameo for the reserves around October time and really did think he was done . Hopefully he can play a part all season

Bloody hell that was nearly positive

The reason we got out fought as you say was basically because we were 2 v 3 in central midfield.

This is is a long-standing issue for us. It goes back to our first season in the championship under Dave Jones.

one of the most baffling things about Carlos’s time as manager was when he selected a three man central midfielder (Bannan, Hutchinson and Lee) v Arsenal which worked brilliantly but then never played it again as far as I can recall.

ok - they were new signings. We were in a soft embargo when we 'signed' the three in May. We couldn't announce them till July, which people suggested coincided with the announcement of the accounts. People have taken this as we're out of the soft embargo.

We haven't signed anyone since May. I fully expected another 2/3 new signings, in particularly a central midfielder.

In terms of moving forward, if the accounts have still not been approved by the EFL and we enter the new season under a soft embargo, we presumably have to work within the transfer restrictions - I don't know if we can actually sign anyone now under free transfer and the alternative will be a loan player.

I'm not sure Lee's re-signing is linked to this, but the announcement is a late one - i.e. insurance policy on moving events.

Best news of the summer......so far.

We've always been a better outfit with him on the field.

I doubt anyone at the club is thinking we can rely on Lee for a full season but what a player to have around and off the bench . Bit like Hutchinson .

We do need another central midfielder no doubt though .

We did miss Hooper, not many players around like him at his best, and to an extent Wallace.......although I do feel Wallace was replaceable, apart from his cheeky grin, we just never did, hopefully Harris can step into those shoes.

If you ever get chance to watch the play off at Hillsborough again, our threat died when he went off, most underrated player we've had for a long time

Have you really equated members of our squad to this lot? That's the sort of typical nonsense you find here on Owlstalk. In reality none of these players would make onto our team!

Not by me, I loved Wallace, but he wasn't getting any younger and sadly his contract was up before Boyds/Mathias/Jones etc etc

Fantastic news

Easily my favourite Wednesday player since we’ve been out of the Premier league
