Now; I hear this 'sustainable planning for the long term' malarkey banded about, but it's rubbish isn't it? SB wanted and got a 1 yr contract - poo or bust - similar to his career to date. Why is this, and why did DC agree to this - it's because we are in poo or bust mode - look at the accounts! We need a manager who can 'go for it' with these players we have - this season - not a 3yr plan - we simply don't have the luxury... We have a squad, that could make the play offs with a bit more strengthening We’ve not been linked with a manager who is renowned for “going for it” None even give us a similar chance to the chances Bruce gave us If there were someone available, who could make that more realistic, then I think we’d all be behind that Edited July 20, 2019 by gurujuan

If we are looking at those who are unemployed, and would take the job (so maybe not Hughton or GVB), or we might be able to tempt away some lower league manager, then why not follow the example of the piggies and Villa. They both gambled on a manager who had reasonable success in the lower leagues, but with the added bonus that both were a fan of those respective clubs. I certainly wouldn’t want to appoint somebody, just because he was a fan, but if he were a promising coach, then the fact that he was a Wednesday fan, might help endear him to the fan base. It may also help with motivation, and a desire to succeed. If we were to go down that route, and for me, that would be preferable to appointing, Coleman, Pulis etc, then I quite fancy the idea of Paul Hurst. A well respected coach, the highest EUFA coaching qualification, and a successful lower league manager, plus a die hard Wednesdayite. I’d be prepared to overlook his torrid time at Ipswich. They were the basket case of a club that did for Mick McCarthy in the same year. Sure, it would be a risk, but a risk I’d rather take than appointing some old dinosaur, who will end up back on the merry go round in a years time I think if it was my money I’d be put off by the Ipswich job. Didn’t get much from limited funds. Rowett for example is the more akin to wilder other than being a fan. Managed at Burton doing well. Then had limited funds at St Andrews also getting them punching a bit. Failing that you’d be looking at Cowley or Stendel. areNOTwhatTHEYseem
If we'd employed the likes of Rowett or Monk after Luhukay was sacked, I reckon the reaction would have been more positive. The appointment of Bruce has raised expectations, but the problem is he's the record-holder for promotions from this division and is likely to make most realistic competitors pale in comparison. But a lot of people (me included) are looking at the "bust" situation and afterwards... it's a tough one.. Yes - we all have concerns - I'm 51 and can't understand what's' happened to football I grew up with and what has happened to our club. £35m/annum loses watching failures, crocks and limp wristed wannabes hurts me as much as anyone. But we have, and continue to sign these journeymen and hired guns who drain the club's finances to the point of starvation and we all continue to clap. That's fine - sign them up, if we have to, but we need a plan to get out of this league - we a manager that can motivate them this season - if not we're fec'd. No? djstatic
If it's Rowett, I would be happy with that. Good fit and ticks a lot of the boxes. Will be able to work to a budget. Coleman is favourite for the job and other than a successful period as Wales manager, club level is patchy at best. We cannot afford to get this one wrong. If he does - give him an extension (unless he want's to manage his boyhood club). Who we have been linked with will be subjective for anyone, unless you are looking at 1-yr promotion stats. It's obvious (even to the owner) that we can't go on as previously. We need to be realistic about what we can achieve with what we're left with. I do think that we've got a decent squad with the ins and outs and I believe a competent manager will get us top six. As for the future.....?????
BenitoCarbone
I am getting close to a point where I almost don’t care who it is, as long as someone gets sufficent time to bond with the team and get their philosophy explained before Reading. SheffWedOwl
Coleman’s odds are worryingly short on some betting sites now. Evens, 4/6... Please don’t do it DC. Someone send him a copy of the Sunderland documentary please.

Once these are in May 2020, up to 6 clubs could be facing point deductions come season 2020/2021.

West Brom fans that wanted him gone? He went, and then his successors took them down. I bet that wouldn't have happened under Pulis. He was a survival specialist up there at Stoke & Palace. As for his time at Boro...he had to help balance the books after Monk blew an absolute fortune on forwards that didn't complement each other. Monk spent best part 30mil on Assombalonga, Fletcher, and Braithwaite. Pulis had to pick up the pieces. Some may not like his brand of football, but he totally transformed Stoke as a club - and that's the sort of job we need doing. Get up and stay up.
