Odds For The New Manager

I do to a point but if you're limiting yourself to out of work managers which I believe we are then you can't do anything but look at the managers that are being mentioned. Bottom line these managers are out of work for a reason so we are not going to appoint a world beater unless we take a chance on someone like Derby did with Lampard. Personally I think DC will look for a promotion specialist and that points towards someone like Pulis who would have us thereabouts. Right appointment? Not sure but if his hearts in it there's not many better.

Not sure why ‘promotion specialist’ would point to Pulis. Not sure how many promotions he’s had in his career - the only one I can think of was with Stoke what, 12 years ago?!

No doubt he can get a team organised and make them tough to beat, but is that the way to win 90 points and get promotion?

Run of the mill

I feel like i’d settle for that with the names that are being banded about!

Someone like Monk or Rowett, whilst they are not exciting appointments, I would have some optimism they would do a good job.

This is the problem , Pulis will point us in the general direction

but Jesus Christ , I’m gonna have to dig out blind to support the guy

True - but you need to look at our financial situation and ask yourself do we have the luxury of a long term plan?

My view is no, unless the FFP rules are changed next year allowing us to circumvent the strict criteria,

Let's face at - unless we are promoted this season, or the rules change, we are in a soft/hard embargo for 2020/2021 season.

Given that the previous manager did seem like the right man at the right time it will be a bit like that.

However, I do think that we need someone in and the list of freebie managers is much better than it was when Carlos left and also Jos.

Most of these things are a gamble anyway. I thought Gray would be awful but he turned out decent.

Yes, it’s always a gamble. If we are looking at those who are unemployed, and would take the job (so maybe not Hughton or GVB), or we might be able to tempt away some lower league manager, then why not follow the example of the piggies and Villa.

They both gambled on a manager who had reasonable success in the lower leagues, but with the added bonus that both were a fan of those respective clubs. I certainly wouldn’t want to appoint somebody, just because he was a fan, but if he were a promising coach, then the fact that he was a Wednesday fan, might help endear him to the fan base. It may also help with motivation, and a desire to succeed. If we were to go down that route, and for me, that would be preferable to appointing, Coleman, Pulis etc, then I quite fancy the idea of Paul Hurst. A well respected coach, the highest EUFA coaching qualification, and a successful lower league manager, plus a die hard Wednesdayite. I’d be prepared to overlook his torrid time at Ipswich.

They were the basket case of a club that did for Mick McCarthy in the same year. Sure, it would be a risk, but a risk I’d rather take than appointing some old dinosaur, who will end up back on the merry go round in a years time

Imagine Warnock rocking up at Middlewood road on Monday saying he’s turned it down before under Mandaric but this time he couldn’t say no , one last swan song

People don’t seem to realise this.

Coleman should be at the bottom of the list, just ahead of Zola and Bullen.

Dreadful manager and that Sunderland documentary was very revealing. I’d be seriously gutted if it was him!

Couldn’t agree more. Of all the names banded around this week they are the three that give me nightmares. I just can’t for the life of me see how any are remotely qualified to get a team out of the Championship.

Lets hope/pray Chansiri sees this too and the bookies odds are meaningless

This seems to be narrowing down to having the most important job interview of your life with a clanging hangover or being the first appointment for root canal work on a dreary winter Monday morning.

We're nearing the point of no return under the current FFP rules.

We can 'go for it' this year and hope we get promoted. If we don't - we are fec'd - no other conclusion for me.

It's nothing like as good as those options. We seem to have the choice of dumb, dumber or dumbest.

Come on DC, do something outstanding. Get us a manager who will knock our socks off, who will amaze us, make us cheer with delight.

No I'm sorry I can't give you a name, you're the boss, use your contacts, take advice, whatever it takes but please not a choice from among this dross.

All the more reason to pull out all the stops and bring in the absolute best we can.

Pulis or Coleman won't come cheap?

This season is 'massive' for SWFC and Chansari - there's no other word for it. Anyone looking at the accounts and FFP criteria knows we are running to the cliff edge without a plan.

We need a manager (like SB) who had/has the potential of getting us at least a play off place. Anything else is means we're fec'd, unless the rules change.

Therefore. I'm happy with a 1-yr manger plan, who has form in these situations.

I'd take the old pantomime dame in a heartbeat. He winds the fans up but it's done with a sly smile. Top quality manager.
