Chris Hughton

Recommended Posts

it's been a crap week for Wednesdayites but if we were to appoint Chris Hughton then it would soften the blow and I think there would be a massive buzz around Hillsborough. when you look at the managers favorite to take over he's definitely one of the best options imo

He'd be the perfect tonic to all of this.
Sadly can't see him uprooting from darn sarf though.

As plenty of people have pointed out, he's managed Newcastle and Brum.

There may be names out there with more upside potential (Van Bronckhorst is one) but Hughton is the obvious choice, and we can afford to pay his Brighton compo now, surely. Would be weird if we weren't trying to make this happen.

If Hughton is on gardening leave Brighton might be happy to take a reduced figure from a Championship club. If he's half interested Brighton could be sounded out to see if they are flexible. They might dig their heels in if it's a Premiership club but we aren't any threat to them.

At least it would save them wages.

Problem is he might want Premiership wages which are out of our reach.

There's no reason for Brighton not to do a deal, to be honest. The only reason Houghton would be on Gardening Leave is because his termination payment was high, so the GL was a quid pro quo, probably a negotiating placeholder that they hoped would have gone by the time the deal was done. A deal should be very doable if Hughton fancies the job, with its known budgetary constraints.

I'd be interested to see someone like Thierry Henry have a crack

Based on his record at Moncao I'd happily let him have another crack elsewhere.

If we are going to go for someone without much experience I'd prefer it to be someone who looks like they know what they are doing!

According to the Express, he was on 525k (May 2018).  When that was reported, it was after he had kept Brighton up, so may include any wage increase for doing so?  If not, it would still be well within our budget when we were paying Mrs Doubtfire £2m.

Chris Hughton snubs becoming next Sheffield Wednesday boss

Chris Hughton has turned down the chance to become the next Sheffield Wednesday boss.

Former Brighton boss Hughton is the odds-on favourite with the bookies to take over from Steve Bruce who is heading to Newcastle.

But Mirror Sport can reveal Hughton has already turned down an approach and is not in the running, believing it was not the right job or the right time.

Hughton has gained an outstanding reputation of getting clubs promoted into the Premier League and then being a first class manager having worked wonders at Brighton and Newcastle.

There will be no shortage after his departure from Brighton in the summer and he has admitted he wants a return to management but it will not be with Wednesday.

Is it not strange that no other media outlets have reported this, just seems to be the Mirror. Hopefully it’s not true and we still are in for him.

The Mirror wouldn't be accurate if you asked them what time it was in 5 minutes, lets wait and see and not pay too much heed to journo's rumours and bookies odds.

Too right, after all Bruce was 1/20 and the mail reported 6 days ago bruce was off...
