Trouble is, he's already got their cash from st sales. The only ones to suffer from an empty ground would be the team. Can't imagine how you get Ashley out in this scenario. He keeps hiring & firing managers who keep the money coming in. Spends relatively little. Even when they go down they come straight back up.

Makes you wonder if it's better the devil you know though. Look at Villa after Doug Ellis left.

Then they need to get ugly and start occupying sports direct stores. Hit him where it really hurts.

To say MA has been ripping the wee wee out of NCL for years the fans have largely sat back and taken it.

Buy a business to try and make money, it's hardly unheard of.

I don't think they are in a position much different to loads of other clubs, just they get the media wankfest around them like Liverpool do due to them having 'the best fans in the world/such loyal support' etc etc

Newcastle are probably the biggest club in that league outside the top 6 sides. They certainly shouldn't be settling for 4th bottom each season. I think if we were an established top flight club like they are then we would think the same. In terms of potential they are massively underachieving IMO.

They're a real odd club - remember looking at their hoads of fans that took over the lepp in 83 thinking this is a massive club, but when we went up to SJP in 91 just before the league cup final there was about 17k in attendance.

Their 'success' in the mid nineties should have propelled them into the top six without a doubt but, like Villa and Everton, they seem to struggle; perhaps with the expectation more than anything.

I was there. 1-1 IIRC
