Popular Post areNOTwhatTHEYseem
I think most of us were very impressed by the addition of Tony Strudwick as our Head of Sports Science and Medicine, although this was probably based on little more than his CV in most cases. This clip from our pre-season training camp is the first time I've heard him speak, and he comes across really well. The wealth of experience he's bringing to the role is way beyond anything we've seen at Wednesday in a generation, and I'll be amazed if we don't have one of the fittest squads in the division by the time August 3rd rolls around. Viva la Bruce revolución! 13

Buddy Repperton
Could be our best signing (only signing) of the summer. Need to be as fit as the others are gonna be.

Look at the difference improved fitness levels made to Leeds last season: they went from mid-table also-rans to automatic promotion contenders with largely the same group of players. Having worked with Alex Ferguson, we'll just have to trust that Strudwick appreciates the importance of a strong end to the season a bit more than Bielsa's men did, though!

hawksmore
Injuries are part of the game. But this guy and the team we now have will get the players back playing and up to match fitness quicker. Reducing the likelihood of injuries and speed of recovery is key and this is what this guy specialises in.
daleblue
Thanks for posting, good to see, seems we have a philosophy rather than running around like headless chickens. No farm yard animals were hurt during this post.

CalmJimmers
Really interesting, cheers for posting. Things like overcoming monotony and sleep requirements to maximise fitness and performance is something I never really considered. Points to the mental side of the training and prep which I think is fascinating.

I remember watching a documentary about the Sky cycling team under Dave Brailsford and when they go on a tour they take each riders personal mattress with them for optimum sleep. Basically this was the kind of finer detail that separated them from the rest for so long - along with many other factors. Hopefully in time we can see small improvements that can help us.

Owls2k
There's loads of fitness and pre-season stuff on youtube from clubs in the last few seasons. It seems to be standard practise now and it's more about not getting left behind rather than getting the advantage, same with nutrition. I'll be interested to see how Tony works during the season with the players when it's mostly about recovery.

Viva la Bruce revolución! Great little insight that, thanks for posting mate. Especially liked what he said about keeping minds fresh and sharp - I feel that’s been really lacking last two seasons and you could totally feel it on match days, however willing they were in spirit. Interesting comment he threw in apropos of nothing about loanees being wary of the Championship in terms of intensity of the physical demands. Makes sense when you think about it, one or two teams always seem to find a budding star each year but they’re not coming down to build a reputation in nearly the numbers you’d logically expect. All bodes well anyway. Couldn’t be more different to the CC approach, and I’m pretty confident that’s gonna prove a good thing in the long run (pun semi-intended!). striker
I like what I see so far. We may or may not be the fittest, but the key for me is being robust. The ability to avoid muscle strains and cope with knocks. Edited July 7, 2019 by striker
