Six players from the Sheffield Wednesday youth system have signed professional contracts with the club.

First up, the Owls have taken up contract options on academy duo Joe West and Ciaran Brennan.

Both West and Brennan signed their maiden professional deals in May 2018.

Meanwhile, Ben Hughes has signed his second professional contract at Hillsborough. The talented winger also penned professional terms with Wednesday in May 2018.

Hughes spent the latter part of the 2018/19 season on loan at Gainsborough Trinity where he gained vital first team experience with the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side.

Fraser Preston, too, has signed fresh terms with the Owls. The academy product signed his first professional contract in October 2016.

The forward joined the academy at Under-14 level and has since worked his way through the ranks.

The 20-year-old made his senior debut in August 2018 in the Championship trip to Brentford and featured four times for the first team last term.

Exciting prospect Jordan O’Brien has also put pen to paper on his first professional deal.

The 18-year-old joined on a scholarship from Corby Town in December 2017 and has made great strides in the youth system at Wednesday.

The pacey forward was part of the Under-18s squad that won both the North and National title last season.

Finally, goalkeeper Josh Render has also signed his first professional contract.

The young shot-stopper joined the Owls academy at Under-13 level, has continued to impress throughout the age groups and played a big part in the 18s’ superb campaign last time out.

Good news, hopefully one or two (or more) can earn themselves a pathway to the first team.
