Tommy Spurr has announced his retirement from professional football due to injury.

The 31-year-old has not played since suffering a hip injury in January while on loan at Fleetwood Town from Preston North End, who released him at the end of the season.

I remember being at one of Tommy's first performances for us, possibly his debut.

It was the last away win we had at Derby too, a 2-0 win back when we had Carson in goal.

Too young an age for retirement, always liked our Tommy.

Poor lad he should have at least 3 or 4 years left in the game, good servant for us, possibly a bit overrated by some but he was mostly solid with the odd fluff.

Hope he has been sensible with his earnings and done some badges etc so he can slot into a new job without any post-playing career issues like a lot of ex-pros have.

Hardly pulled up any trees but gave 100%.

Good squad player but that's about it in terms of ability.

Was always solid and a real shame he has had to retire. Obviously that goal at the lane will be what he is remembered for but he did well for us and a real shame at 31 that he has retired. All the best Tommy.
