Blackburn 22 April 1979 Big Jack had been after him for months. 30th March 1979 6t6th June 1979 In a previous incarnation ! - What on earth was going on here ! 2 8
Kopparberg
Didn’t expect us to be spending that amount of money for players in those days.

Tamworthowl
We should have gone for Ian Rush at the same time. Missed opportunity.

Sham67
We're still trying to work out who tripped Spider up for that 'diving header' at Blackburn.
Hougoumont
Reight player...scored a superb goal for us at Blackburn two months before he signed for us. That's a true legend. 1

Ibbo48
Trouble with Spider is, apart from the 2 legendary goals, I don’t remember him doing much else. Am I doing him a disservice ? Just can’t recall him having many blinders.

I recall saying at the BDM "what's he fannying about wi ball there for...." 1

bradowl
Terry Curran was Big Jack's best signing, god knows how he got Curran to drop down 2 levels to come and play for us who weren't doing great at time. Being a local lad helped but he was doing really well in top league with Forest and then Southampton. Lawrie McMenemy didn't want him to leave either.
Ibbo48
We bought some class exCity players back then didn’t we? Ian Mellor Tony Coleman Phil Henson Denis Leman was about the only one I always enjoyed watching. Are there any others ?
asteener1867
To be fair to him..He was responsible for one of the "Biggest mentals" Ive ever been in amongst Owls fans at Blackburn..There was mouth frothing and all sorts...I banged me head on a crash barrier...bloke next to me was just sorta..."fitting"..I dunno how else to put it
Geedee
I worked with Ian after he finished football he's a smashing bloke, when most people say goodbye , Ian always said 'see you at the far post' I also played football with his toddler son Neil on their back garden in Chapeltown. Utah Owl
Dunsby I'm shocked! My faith in you has been temporarily shattered! The goal against Blackburn was 1980 not 1979! Quick urgent faith restorer required! Tbh surprised no one got there on this factual slip earlier! Incidentally the BDM strike is still one of my all time favourites. Knew it was in from the moment he hit it! Edited June 7, 2019 by Utah Owl
