swfcjam
3 hours ago, Offside_Owl said: The actual reason is that clubs prefer long-distance away games to be played midweek as it enables them to do the game in a day (if they wish) without the need for the expense of an overnight stay in a hotel. Obviously some clubs will still do it as a stop over the night before, but many on a budget will coach it there on the morning, play the game, and coach it back. It's nothing to do with some games being moved to midweek due to fan trouble. Absolute rubbish. Us vs Millwall is a game both syp and the met police ask to be played on a midweek to stop trouble between the two sets of fans after disorder in recent years. Source.. Not played them on a Saturday since 2005. QPR is as bad it makes you wonder what the people at the EFL are on or is it just laziness. True.. need to take a look at these long distance trips midweek for all clubs, makes no sense at all.Not just a swfc issue all clubs, midweek games end up with lower attendances and 100 away fans. Did we have a 3pm ko on a Saturday recently in London. Plenty of fixtures within a 50 _ 100 miles to be had so cant be that difficult to plan. That’s when they should worry about a visit from the likes of Millwall !!
The Hoppy Hopper
https://www.efl.com/news/2016/june/behind-the-scenes-at-the-efl-fixtures-qa-with-competitions-manager-paul-snellgrove/ This gives their side of it. A couple of long distance away games midweek seems fair; but not sure why it’s always at Millwall and QPR. Would make more sense to rotate it slightly. On the other hand if they stuck Forest, Derby and Villa midweek we’d complain they were spoiling good days out.

handworth52
our away support is usually far better behaved for the London ,reading games etc there is never any trouble and far less chavs go to these games as you need £200 for a London game inc ticket train, tube, food, and drinks and anything else. they can manage a tenner to derby, leeds on the train and get a cheap bottle of cider and be as high as a kite on whatever there fix is. im hoping we get 1-2 London games on a Saturday hopefully one in august.

QPR away a few years ago first game of season was a cracker even though we lost. Young bird on row in front of us was in a reight state from drinking far too much, spent most of game laid on floor with everything on show.
