Norwich want Rhodes

Ideally yes, they seem to have found the perfect role for him. I’ve always said it, if we use him in the way ALF was used by Reading, there would be a place for him at Hillsborough Was it worth paying that sort of money just to have a player like that on the bench? Definitely not, but what’s done is done, we either sell him, or find a way of utilising him

Sell him then. 3 million. Get rid.

Really like Rhodes but TBH I would sell all our 17 strikers and spend the money gained and saved on loaning one decent one up front who will score us a 20 (unlike the lovable Fletch), maybe buying a proven deputy (or keep Winnall) and promoting a hotshot youngster from the Yoof team - (Have we still got Borukov?). Bruce doesn’t play two up front usually so they could be supplemented by fleet footed youngsters on loan from top clubs breaking from midfield.

This managment lark is easy innit? After Steve has taken my advice, Ill move on to sort out Brexit and World Peace. My consultancy fee is four pints of Stones with pie and peas.

We owe Middlesbrough around 4 million payable as soon as we let him go do really think releasing him on a free would help the club

It's because they had an even more prolific striker in front of him... don't you take notice?

Who performed the way he did because Rhodes wont have taken any days off in training, possibly the first one on every bus and conducts himself as a class act.

No wonder Norwich would like to keep him.

Now then fellas... let's stop dancing around with this problem. We know there was an agreement to buy for £7m if they got promoted and wanted to keep him...they do, but now they want to chip DC on the price. It's common business practice, but you don't roll over and have your tummy tickled for £3m plus. Either they'll come to an agreement at about £6m or we'll take him back and use him, or sell him to someone else who will pay our price. What's not in question is Rhodes scoring record when used correctly...which he hasn't been by both previous managers.

£7m does seem a lot for what he’s achieved over the past couple of years but maybe the transfer fee we paid for Rhodes was funded by a loan from Doyen and we need the £7m to repay that?

That's quite a leap.

What probably did for Rhodes this season was the form of Pukki and as a result he never got a look in. As others have said when Rhodes did get game time he was decent. What Notwich have to decide is will Pukki do it next season and if not will Rhodes take his place? It's a gamble but for a Premiership side who have already made a decent investment in Rhodes not a huge one.

Talk of us wanting £7m is all a bit of posturing.

Norwich last week leaked to their local rag they wanted him on a free transfer.

Neither of those scenario's are going to happen...and both clubs know it.

There is definitely a deal to be done which suits both parties.

Given that we paid £8m over four years (whether some of that was appearance, goals, bonus related, who knows...if it was, we'll have saved a bit of that fee because he won't have triggered any), then we've still got £4m spread over two years on the P&S accounts.

I think a deal between £3.5-4.5m, perhaps weighted by some triggers, is the golden number. We will have essentially wrote off what we currently "owe" on the accounts, and actually recouped a fair % of the entire fee, given Norwich's loan fee and promotion bonus last season.

And Norwich have a striker who scores goals at Championship level, who knows the system and philosophy they play and is settled in the area, for a bargain price of approx. £4m.

Norwich will do well to find a striker with the record of Rhodes for less than that.

From what I've been told a fee plus add ons  was agreed at the beginning of the loan. Norwich want to.pay less understandably,. Talks have been ongoing for weeks with our stance being pay what you agreed or close to it

Bladeshater reckons we still owe Middlesboro £ 4 mill - is this true ?

I think there's some confusion between what we actually owe and what is yet to be written down in the accounts.

As I understand it, Rhodes has been fully paid for but his 'book value' is still £4m, to be written down at £2m a year over the last 2 years of his contract.

So, if for example, we get £4m for him tomorrow, we get £4m in cashflow into the club (not relevant to FFP) and get rid of the £2m 'loss' that will be applied to each of the next 2 sets of accounts.

If we sold him for more than £4m, any amount over that would go on the P&L to reduce losses. Anything less than £4m and the difference would have to go on the P&L as a loss.

So you want us to give him away, continue to pay Middlesbrough the instalments? Then sign someone to replace him with a signing on fee and either a fee or free transfer.

We we used to do that, give players away for free or next to nowt.

Glad we have stopped being pushovers

Simple test is to ask yourself if Gary Madine is worth 6m and has achieved the square root of feck all then why should Rhodes mot be worth 7m with his scoring record.

Madine isn't worth £6m though, that was a laughable panic buy by Warnock after he had his only goalscoring purple patch since 2012.
