I thought it was Ian Rush. It happened straight from the kick off so he would have been one of the furthest forward, especially with his pace. A centre back pairing of Lyons and Walker would have been amazing. Loved him when I was a kid and met him at the 150th dinner. Think he lives in New Zealand now. That’s the one - thanks. Mick leading from the front sprinting up the hill with the rest of the squad in his wake. Andy Mac and JP not looking too comfortable but at least they’re near the front! I really don’t think any team looked forward to playing us in that era. The late Charlton early Wilkinson teams were so fit and hard as nails. I loved it. Slight Wednesday connection... During his Q-Tips days he was a regular visitor to Vere Road to "socialise" .. I'm afraid I cannot give anymore information regarding said visit... brian joicey Posted May 13, 2019 Share Posted May 13, 2019 I met him in a bar in Benidorm in 84/85,he was surrounded by Geordie fans .spotting my yellow away shorts of that season he shouted me to come across and save him!we had some good banter and a few drinks.he told us that he went to Newcastle to talk to them before driving down to Hillsborough to sign for us (that went down well)happy days! I will always remember how he used to sprint out of the tunnel at the start of each half, with the rest of the team following him about 2 minutes later. A true leader and legend.
