Why we NEED new forwards

Recommended Posts

No way can this be a set of forwards which achieves us promotion.

Fletcher

Starts 37

Sub 8

Did not Play 6

Matias

Starts 22

Sub 12

Did not Play 17

Joao

Starts 18

Sub 13

Did not Play 20

Forestieri

Starts 16

Sub 11

Did not Play 24

Nuhiu

Starts 14

Sub 23

Did not Play 14

Hooper

Starts 4

Sub 1

Did not Play 46

Winnall

Starts 1

Sub 7

Did not Play 43

Fletcher was outstanding and can lead the line even better next season.

But no other forward has been fit enough or played well enough to earn a regular place. The striker who lines up alongside Fletcher in August should not be from the above names. Nor should the first-pick sub.

Or do we just need better service to the forwards.

No Reach, Bannan or Aarons today.

Makes a massive difference.

Good service doesn’t help unavailable players.

Just feel that we've got too many strikers to shift, and far too many glaring voids within our squad, which'll force Bruce to focus on other areas of the squad.

He's been very consistent about his desire to cut the number of strikers he's got at the club.

Assuming only Hooper isn't offered a new deal (and not counting Matias as a striker, because...well, he isn't one) that still leaves Bruce with six strikers. He'll certainly TRY and shift a couple of them...Winnall will certainly be made available for transfer.

But even if they are successful in shifting a couple more, it'll still leave Bruce with four or five strikers.

Bringing in another striker just makes the problem Bruce is trying to solve, so much harder.

I think, if we keep Joao, Nuhiu, Fletcher and Rhodes, and used Forestieri as a wide forward, although it'll perhaps not be ideal, it'll give us enough variety to remain competitive. And perhaps in January, when things have settled down a bit, Bruce may look to move one striker on and bring another in during that window.

I think Fletcher with a decent partner could be a good option next season.

The one player that unlocked us this season was Aaron's which shows what we have been missing.

If we can get either Aaron's or equivalent then we maybe ok with what we have.

Some of Rhodes best seasons have been playing off of a number nine that wins flick one and does all the dirty work.

Maybe the rhodes of all those hundred page mega threads is finally going to be in our lineup!

A really effective player out wide woud be essential if we still labour on without an attacking midfielder who can push and run. Aarons made a big difference for a while

We need new everything

this team is tried, tested and not good enough to get out of this league

We certainly have weaknesses in the back four, the midfield and strikers. Am amazed The Star can give such high marKs today for a team losing at home to QPR.

We need real pace up front and out wide. two quick players would do. Joao has pace but is knackered after 3 or 4 bursts so they need energy as well. this will help other players as it will give them more space and allow our tricky players to get nearer to opponents box.

It's not the forwards that's the problem, it's the tactics and the midfield that needs sorting. If we were creating loads of chances and strikers where fluffing chances then I'd agree. The fact is we don't create enough in the box, most of our recent goals have been 20-30 yard screamers.

How man 6 yard tapings have we had recently?

Clear to see today, whilst missing Bannan we had no width and pace out wide whatsoever.

Palmer rarely got forward because QPR had a tricky winger who wanted ball every time they went forward.
