With Notts County being relegated, I'm guessing we're the third oldest club in the League, behind Stoke and Forest, (unless either of these two have been in administration which would make us the oldest).

One for the historians.

That would be impossible to identify, even with modern tech. I would hazard a guess that’s it not an owl as back then we didn’t have a nickname.

It might be James Lang wearing his Scotland shirt.

I think 'from memory' the first I can remember going were bradford park avenue after finishing bottom for quite a few years running, although accrington stanley had gone some years before them, not sure who went before them?.

but just looked up a list of sides who have 'slipped away' and found abadare athletic, bootle, burton swifts, darwen, glossop, l**ds city, new brighton tower, stalybridge celtic amongst other interesting ones.

Workington is first club I remember dropping out of league.

Will have been early 70s when clubs were voted out by other league clubs.

Think it was called seeking re-election in them days.

Shame about Notts County, probably biggest club to drop out of football league.

Some decent well known clubs in National leagues now.

Wrexham, Chesterfield, Hartlepool, York City, Stockport County, Aldershot, Hereford United, Barnet.

League 2 could have a team called Fylde in next season, I had never heard of them till recently.

I still couldn't tell you off the top of my head where it is in the country. Same could be said for Forest Green Rovers.

They might not be in the league but at the end of the day, Notts County is still the oldest club.

That is Sheffield FC they were the oldest football league club which they are no longer in

True. But better than a creaking old body, with flaking skin and a risk of devastating urinary incontinence.

It'd be the best damned devastating urinary incontinence in the galaxy though, Hitcat lol

Fylde are my 2nd team since Gretna folded

My local team technically. Previously they were Kirkham & Wesham until local businessman David Haythornthwaite took over. Big new stadium on the outskirts of the town (great sports bar too!). Still only get gates of around the 1500 hundred mark so be interesting if they do make into the football league. They got quite a few that were boycotting blackpool under the oystens so be interesting to see how attendances hold up now they have gone.

We don’t make enough of the fact that we are the oldest sports club in the football league.

are we even the oldest existing sports club in the U.K. or even the World?

There's some village cricket clubs that date from before 1800 (I think maybe even 1 or 2 from before 1700).

The Owls store must have been interesting back then... "OK you want the home shirt - We have "back row" guy - crew neck narrow stripes, or the regular shirt - crew neck - regular stripes, or the "front row guy" regular stripes with button up collar"...   If you want the goalie shirt it has the "future retro" 2017 Chansiri dopey bird logo on it..."   other accessories - see our full line of shorts and sweat pants - come in a variety of lengths and colors...
