An indication Westwood is off?

Recommended Posts

Bruce is just having a look at his squad, the goalkeeper situation is tricky, can we cope without KW ?

I'd say yes BUT we are a better team with him in there, it all boils down to money in the end, maybe sacrifice KW's wages for an outfield player because we are going to have big problems in the finance department over the summer, time for SB to earn his corn.

Both need to be playing first team football surely then.

Agree, and one or both should have been loaned out before now.

Training is one thing. Match competitive league football is another, and these lads need to be getting experience under their belts.

That will be a no then lol

No longer first choice, signed a new contract when Mark Hughes was there and he was number 1. He’ll be looking for a new club this summer.

John Ruddy another who’s not needed any more

Plenty of options

Still don't think we can afford them though, both are in contracts and rated at £5M and £2.7M respectively.

No one will know what we can afford unfortunately

Think a loan to buy would be feasible if Westwood was to leave, both will be on similar wages

If not, plenty of frees and loans to go around as Norwich and United have proven this year

Southampton have McCarthy and Forster as back up. Surely they’d lend us one of them. Although no way would we be able pay all there wages.

Darlow from Newcastle also could be an option.

If we can sign the right defenders, including Hector I’d be happy enough with Dawson in goal if Westwood leaves.

I think Dawson received too much criticism in the first half of the season, and whilst he did make some mistakes, he wasn’t helped by those in front. The fact he was replacing a hugely popular figure in Westwood didn’t help and as a result became a bit of a scapegoat.

The lad has got the ability as shown in the Derby at the lane. I went to the Bristol City home game and thought he did everything required and with a sense of effiency.

It would be very disappointing if rumours of him joining Huddersfield are true. I’d like to think he’d favour staying for a promotion push in the same league under a proven quality manager.

Huddersfield can afford to blow us out of the water financially. Like ALL footballers, he will follow the money. Despite what people think he couldn't care less about Wednesday, the manager or promotion.  He might genuinely have a soft spot for Wednesday but he's not a supporter, and he'll develop a soft spot for Huddersfield if they offer him £10,000 a week more.

It is abundantly clear that KW's presence between the sticks helps our defence. They trust him, and he Marshall's and directs the defenders in front of him exceptionally well. Hence, it is no coincidence with hon back between the sticks, the collective defending has been better.

Dawson is a good shot stopper, and has made some excellent saves. BUT, he does not command those in front of him and even his most earnest of fans must be able to see that the team are better with Westwood in goal.

Although I would not want Westwood to leave, in a bizarre way  it might just be what spurs Dawson on, not having Westwood as competition. If Westwood stays, then Dawson or Wildsmith must try and get loans moves.
