SallyCinnamon
https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/latest-owls-news/sheffield-wednesday-chief-steve-bruce-on-joe-wildsmith-and-the-reason-behind-keiren-westwood-s-absence-against-preston-north-end-1-9736139 I’m sure if we were close to agreeing a deal with Westwood he would have been involved yesterday. Bruce has always tried to play his strongest eleven since he’s been here. Huge shame as I don’t think Dawson or Wildsmith are anywhere near his level.
pazowl55
He is probably keeping his options open incase Westwood turns us down. No need to play Westwood now. But I will be very surprised if we are not doing all we can to keep him.
Guest wilyfox
Be interesting to see what transpires, and whether or not Bruce has genuine interest in French keeper Beunardeau.
fpowl
Na not really this is standard practice nothing to play for only pride have a look at your fringe players in a competitive match I’m sure one of Bruce’s priorities will be kicking off next season with Westwood number
stumps
I think more likely to be looking into who he sends out on loan or keeps as back-up to Westwood as they have already said they want to keep him. 1

He’s said this all week and confirmed this was the mentality ahead of kick-off. Westwood plays if he isn’t going in my opinion.
Birley Owl 1867
Standard practice these days. Preston played a keeper they haven't played all season yesterday. Always happens this time of year, and whilst we were mathematically in the hunt it was a long shot which has been reflected in his recent teams. Why do you think Lee was in the side yesterday? If we was in top 6 he wouldn't have been there yesterday.
WalthamOwl
If Westwood does leave which would be a massive mistake we would need to bring in a new number one keeper because over a season for me Dawson isn’t good enough to be first choice just yet. Orlando_Trustful
I really hope he stays, but if not Bruce has to ensure we get a new number 1. Dawson is nowhere need good enough.

This its not a criticism Dawson needs to go out and be number one for a season else where Rotherham for their promotion bid next year maybe go earn your stripes young man
Bouncing Owl
Westwood will be offered a new contract and he will be our goalkeeper next season. I’m 95% certain of this.
Costello 77
I've been an advocate of Dawson.. but I can well see what Westwood gives us. I'm of the mind to prioritise him now.
Key
An indication Westwood is off? Or an indication that some of our fans are very much glass half empty types? 1

striker
Makes sense for Bruce to have a look at what he's got, then strengthens his resolve to keep Westwood for at least another year. Suggests more about Dawson perhaps than Westwood, if Bruce wants to see other options..
Inspector Lestrade
Isn't this like the first cuckoo of the year? It will be FF next. Every window.
WalthamOwl
We can’t stand back and let him leave. Be a massive kick in the balls if he goes to a fellow Championship club.
s6 owl
If he thinks Huddersfield is a better place to be than Hillsborough then cheerio pal and thanks for the memories.
Dronfield Blue
I don't know why, but I just had a look at a piggy fan site S2 4SU. Some of their punters (not sure I've spelt that right) fancy Westwood at the stain.
Lord Snooty
MANAGER IN WANTING TO LOOK AT ALL HIS PLAYERS SHOCK Owls boss Steve Bruce has sensationally said he will be looking at some of the players he's not seen in match action yet in next weeks dead rubber fixture against QPR, just two weeks after he said he'd be looking at some of the players he's not seen in match action 'in the next fortnight.
