He certainly did. Deputised for Roland when the swede did his knee (cruciate?) at Millwall.

I went to that Millwall match on either Crofty’s or Weenie’s coach. We got stuck in central London and got to the game late. The first thing I saw when I got into the ground was Nilsson collapse to the ground with that injury.

Who the chuff's voted for Haslam?! Steve, is that you mate?

He wasn't really a RB anyway, he broke into the team there but the vast majority of his appearances were at either CB or when Danny Wilson bizarrely thought he'd make a defensive midfielder,  in the Premier League. Christ, there's no wonder we went down.

Always feel sorry for Mel Sterland in these polls / dream teams, because he was absolutely brilliant yet gets overshadowed for the RB position by the sheer genius of Roland Nilsson every time.

So I've voted for Zico because he was one of my earliest heroes even though Nilsson was a better player than him, if that makes sense.  There was no finer sight than Sterland marauding up the right wing with opponents just bouncing off him, and of course he scored a load of goals as well. Deserved far more than just the one England cap.

Was a decent makeshift striker as well.

I too loved watching Zico but im afraid he would be on the bench with Roland as right back.

You will of course be including a subs bench I suppose, Snoots old cove . If only to give mention to some who are unlucky to miss out. And some players will be very unlucky to miss out.

Weve had some stormers at RB,Wilf Smith played so well that George Best would change wings to avoid him!! Zico, who would never be beaten,a game was never over with him in the side, possibly the highest scoring RB weve ever had,he just bled Wednesday, from Pete Johnson,to Buxton who whipped in those delicious crosses,Ray blackhall and Richard Walden played their nads off but one above all pips the others,Roland was calm assured and just oozed class, tackled strong but fair, mostly!

Its Roland Nilsson for me

Great post! Super descriptions.

First to mention Buxtons crossing ability too. Bigger loss than folks have given it credence that!

No brainer really had to pick Roland. But Ray Blackhall was there when I started going to matches. He seemed so solid wanted to vote for him.

And that's half of it isn't it. There are some brilliant players we've had over the years. But there are also those players we just liked or remind us of a different time.

Ahhh, Simek's goal at Millwall... What a day that was.

Me and friend were both individually delayed and ended up missing the first 30 minutes. Just got in to see Lucas mess up his knee whereby the Millwall fans showed their class by singing "let him die". Bully goes in goal, second half he flaps at a corner - Millwall score. I had no complaints about awarding the goal, but thankfully the ref saw it differently. Next thing, we are down the other end and Simek scores. Millwall fans go apoplectic, chucking all manner of things on the pitch. After the game, we're kept in the "cage" until every last home fan has gone and then have a police escort to take us all to Euston... but I live in south London so have to sneak out via a break in the police line. Good times.

Still voted for Nilsson though....

Started watching Wednesday just after Sterland left so this is the easiest pick in the world for me.

Nilsson was possibly the most accomplished player I've ever seen for Wednesday in any position, always seemed to have more time than regular humans. Even played a one two with the post in a league cup semi final against Blackburn.
