Groundhopping Owl
Remember we'll have Penney for left back next season so it's potentially not somewhere that we need to invest heavy resources in, I genuinely think he's got what it takes to be our long-term solution in that position. Obviously he'll need some competition but that might be best achieved through a loan deal.

Yet for the last year I have been saying he would be a great signing and look now how good iorfa is and how good he could become. You don't play 250 games in the championship over 6 season if your crap. Bidwell will be an improvement on what we currently have at left back and he's the right price....... Free agent. All good points to be fair!!

Not sure Matt is good enough as an actual left back rather than a wing back

That would be my preference He has the ability to challenge for the left back role, but yes we need to bring someone else in as well. There are plenty of good pacy young left backs out there, who we could bring in on a season long loan
gurujuan
I liked the look of those young Wigan full backs, Reece James and Antonee Robinson, on loan from Chelsea and Everton respectively. James who has recently moved into midfield has been outstanding, and I cannot believe he didn’t get into the Championship team of the year It shows the level of talent that is out there and available to Championship clubs
Sonny
Seems unlikely that Fox will be going anywhere? Are we really likely to be able to sell him? Is Bruce any more likely to want to waste scant resources on more than two left backs (not including Penney there as I assume he’s currently very cheap). Think Fox does have his admirers out there, as I’ve heard managers say good things about him, so if Bruce wants his own man in, he’ll have to try and wheel and deal. If we can get Fox fixed up elsewhere, we could always send Penney out on loan somewhere.

He’s probably not on the kind of wage that would put everyone off if we’re prepared to let him go cheap. Thing is he’s not the worst understudy, as long as he’s understudying someone loads better who never gets injured.

prowl
Fox won't be on much money, it's not urgent that we move him on. He's shown an improvement in his form recently so he would do as an understudy. It seems obvious Bruce want's better or he wouldn't have brought Lazaar in on loan. Fox maybe isn't up to being first choice in a promotion hunting team but capable of filling in as needed.
gurujuan
I hope we move away from the previous policy of recruiting quantity and experience, and go for quality and youth

A mix would be decent, an experienced centre half and battling midfielder with young hungry striker and wide man will do me. Experienced keeper too if Westwood doesn't resign etc.
