I would suggest the deal we did for Winnall was great business a striker who at that point of signing was one of the best strikers in the league that season. But we didn't play to his strength he scored goals with his head we didn't play winger who could cross a ball, but the Rhodes deal made no sense what so ever, a guy who had done nothing for Boro since leaving Blackburn, suddenly was worth £2m more than he cost them.

 

If you sign Winnall for I think it was £500k, on a reasonable wage you never then bother with Rhodes.

 

Looking back now with £8m fee, £2m loan fee and 3 years of wages - basically what Rhodes will have cost us we probably would not have Profit and Sustainability issue now that how stupid a deal the Rhodes deal was then some quarters to try and blame the fans for it...….

Think we all recognise that 2-3 years ago the club got carried away with bringing players in a scattergun fashion.
Hopefully this summer is an opportunity to move big earners on. Not sure whose contracts are up but thinks its best for the club players like Abdi, Jones, Boyd, Hooper, Lee, FF are moved on.

We should be taking a real interest in lower league players, we all understand the benefits if they succeed but if they do happen to fail the chances are we’d make our money back on the simply down to the fact the minute they join us they become “championship players” and they come with a premium attached.

I think one of the spin offs of having SB, apart from his coaching qualities will be his knowledge of the English game. He will have a clear understanding of the value of players unlike previous advisors who may even have benefited from paying over the odds

All anything like this does is highlight how utterly shambolic the running of the club has been, from chansiri , to clueless Carlos , and all the other berks in between.

 

Whilst other clubs are promoting youth , making smart loans , we were paying large fees /wages for past it (in footballing terms) players such as Boyd , Jones , abdi , Rhodes etc and have been lumbered with them as well as crocks like lee and hooper (less the clubs fault ). We also have clowns like forestieri who should have been sold as soon as the dummy went out , instead , he’s now crap and we are lumbered with him . 

 

Having Bruce here helps , but whilst ever chansiri is chairman , one thing that can be garunteed, is things will be done the wrong / long way

But without Chansiri we wouldn't have signed any players for more than 350k anyway and the best position we could hope for is probably where we are now.
