Eric Cantona - it’s a myth

So is the story about Jesus but it keeps cropping up.

People love to believe in myths and ignore the evidence against it.

Trevor says it didn't happen and straight away the person at the centre of the story is ignored because the myth is sexier.

Except in this case, many of us witnessed what Tricky said at the time, and there's still a ton of footage out there on YouTube etc, that contradicts Trev's revised (face saving) history of the incident.

Jesus on the other hand, zero evidence he actually even existed.

Think we did take him on trial with a view to signing him on a short term deal until end of the season.

We dilly dallied thinking it was too much money for someone with a Cantonas baggage while Leeds took a chance and made a firm offer.
Was a mistake but think even if we did sign Cantona likely he would only have been here a few months anyway.

He did and there is....

Easy aren't they these throw away lines.

Why do you think it's important to bring Jesus into the discussion?

Is it because it's Holy Week or were you trolling?

I didn't bring Jesus into the discussion.

Just like Christians... Cherry pick the bits you read.

Eric Cantona was in Nottingham on his tour a few months ago. Addressing the audience, he stated that he scored a hat-trick in a practice match for Sheffield Wednesday and was ready for signing but Trevor Francis was not ready to sign him.

Aye, if we'd signed Eric, do you think we'd have still signed God?

And how good would they have been together in our side back then?

Waddle top player and top bloke, had the privilege of meeting him a few times. They would have been unstoppable but I don't think Cantona would have stuck around too long, like at Leeds.

No matter what the article says, we had a guy in the building who changed English football and we didn't get a deal done which Wilkinson and then Fergie did. Clearly we should have but whether it would have changed us? many things could have happened, he could have caught the injury curse of Wednesday and broke his leg in his 4th game, he might have kung fu kicked someone and then we would have told him to go back to France and not comeback, or yes he could have formed a huge partnership with Hirst and Shezza. We will never know, but i think for Francis to say 'we had no option to buy' is naive and a bit poor to expect us to just eat that up and believe it. There is always an option, that's why he drove up the M1 to Leeds and joined them.

Have you ever looked at the evidence for the existence of Jesus? I mean, aside from the godly stuff...

Didn't we also have a left back on trial called Jaap Stam its a good job he never went on to be a decent player as that would be an embarrassment to be able to get a free agent that signed for another team for £15m lol

I suspect he would have done a Di Canio and engineered a move somewhere else...even quicker than the way Di Canio did.

Leeds were bigger and does anyone think we could compare with a lure to Manu.

Waddle chose us over Leeds

It happens

Cantona chose Manu over Leeds..what does that tell you?  Do you honestly think we could have fed Erics ego enough in comparison to Fergie and Manu?  Of course not.

Leeds didn't want him to keep him.

So Wilkinson was too stubborn and not skilled enough to get the best out of him

And Francis was not experienced or skilled enough to get the best out of the situation.

And we then Fergie takes a gamble.  And the rest is history

There was an inevitability of it.

And we have Rickygoo waiting to pick apart my post like an obsessive surgeon who suffers with OCD.
