Just think how good he might have been if he hadn't been on the ×××× all the time.

Hirst broke a finger but still managed to keep a clean sheet and Wednesday won 2-0 against one of their rivals in the battle for top-flight survival.

Not too well researched. We finished 3rd in the top division so obviously we survived quite well.

Lost all interest with the bloke the  day he stabbed the club in the back last summer with his greedy son

I was at the Newcastle game. Think it was Easter Monday. Big game, both sides n trouble. They had Mirandinha playing. That goal by Hirst, for the quality, and the importance, is one of the best I’ve seen. Think we may still have gone down though, all the years merge into one. Seem to recall winning 4-1 at Coventy around the same time. May be wrong on this, but did Dean Barrick score with his first touch in professional football?

In 1996, the left-foot volley that he struck the crossbar against Arsenal at Highbury was clocked at 114mph. It remains the fastest recorded shot in history and Hirst has a certificate from the Guinness Book of Records in his downstairs toilet to prove it.

It would have been better if it was the fastest recorded sh it.lol

Funny how times change.

A few years ago I might have been ' Oh Hirsty, what a lad'

Now I just think that's quite a sad story.

Sort of know what you mean.

On the other hand, it's a story of of the times.

What's that old phrase...

"The past is a different country, people do things differently there"

Is it wrong that all I can think is he let himself, the club and the fans down with all that drinking.

It can’t have helped with his injures for a start.

However good at the time it now seems like a sad story of what could have been :-(

Oh, and my opinion of him has been tainted over recent years.

The Newcastle game were Hirst scored that goal and Barrick's first touch was the season before (88/89), Coventry was 89/90 though.

We never used to beat them and remember walking out of Highfield Road that day think we'll stay up no problem :duntmatter:

Just looked at the results and we lost 5 out of the last 6 games, with Luton winning their last 3

The bit about Man United trying to sign him is interesting. Who knew???

Fake news mate. Unless someone hears it from Hirst's own lips it didn't happen.
