Bruce’s first focus was leaking goals, which he completely transformed, but it hasn’t taken him long to address issues at the sharp end too.

 

We have width and pace. We had become a very narrow side. Now, Reach hugs one touch line and Aarons the other. There’s always an outlet wide, ably supported by the overlapping Palmer and rampaging Iorfa. Think of the number of goals we are scoring from crosses and bye-line pull-backs.

 

We have stopped peeing about at the back. Bruce has no shame in mixing flowing football with very direct football, and with the fabulous Fletcher up front and Nuhiu as his replacement why wouldn’t you?

 

We we have become very dangerous at set-pieces. Bruce pointed what a tall side we are in his after-match comments. When defences see Fletcher or Nuhiu, Hector, Lees and (full-back!!!!) Iorfa in a line waiting for a Bannan curler, what a prospect.

 

Anyone got other thoughts about why this ailing squad is now full of goals? Two per game is top-notch.

Confidence is rocketing, but still dithering on the ball going forward. Bruce needs to address this during the IB.

Sorry to be picky, but the defence was more or less sorted by Bullen. The transformation from Jos to Bullen was immediate. Only blemish, a blip under Agnew at Hull.

 

The main change that has given us goals is pace combined with wing play. Arrons is the focus, but Reach goes on the outside much more. When he doesn't, Iorfa or Palmer overlaps. Crosses from the byline, hard and low, or chipped to the back post, have created a few goals and more chances than we've seen for ages. But we also try to play the ball quicker: Hector's long passes into the channels for Reach, even Westwood tried a quick downfield punt yesterday. But wing play is the main factor. Wingers out wide take defenders out wide leaving more space for the forwards and centre midfielders to exploit.

Blackburn looked very shaky when Hector, Iorfa and Nuhiu attecked at the back post.

Niaive of them to keep giving away soft free kicks for Bannan to float in yesterday.

Think you are getting a bit carried away with the 4 goals we scored yesterday against a side with the highest goals conceded away from home. Having said that we are looking better going forward at home which is mainly down to the Injection of pace into the side and keeping a settled team

Wingers.... Oh yes wingers,  I like wingers with floaty, bendy crosses or pull backs from the by line to players running in from edge of box or wingers that drive the ball in low and hard.

we've found football is best played in the opposition half of the field.

when you're in that half look to make a scoring chance, and not how many passes you can string together, or if you can manage to start a move to get it back to our own keeper.

it's even 'more amazing' when using those flanks involves a wide man (could be a wingback) at pace, instead of the 3 or 4 man overcomplicated 'short pass and move' routine we had, that used so many men in the build up, we had just one bloke in the middle marked by 4 of theirs should a cross eventually get in there.

when you look here at what owlstalk posters are coming up with in relation to the 'faults' in our previous 'regimes' set up's and plays, it does make you wonder why those in the 'hot seat' at s6 didn't see it for themselves?

  This exactly . Half the time the defending team would just have one defender going to them as we werent even any good at it knowing full well there would only be one man in the box who they could just surround . Bruce obviously thought this was a stupid way to play

I think to be fair I have counted two defenders being used, but using two defenders to take out 4 of our attackers or attacking support is a very good trade off, when in the area fletcher has to cope with his marker, the keeper, and the 2 men they have extra in there due to our one eyed stupidity.

Timely to post this after we scored 4...against a side that was decimated by injuries and at sea at the back...

 

Prior to yesterday we were still below 1.5 goals a game, which given some of the sides we’ve played is far from spectacular 

 

So whilst it now looks better, I’d suggest our form is coming from the back and we’re doing just enough at the front...slightly better than before.

 

My guess is that it’s our lack of goals that will cost us over the next few weeks unfortunately.

the injuries we already have, and those to come will 'likely' prove to be too much for us to overcome with out 'brittle squad', but what bruce has achieved with a squad built up by someone else, with a completely different style of play in mind has been nothing short of 'outstanding', and gives us great hope of what improvements can be achieved next term

Prior to yesterday we had scored 10 from 6. That would lead to a 78 goal season.

We look a lot fitter and get more bodies in the box when crosses come in.

 

The delivery of those crosses is a hell of a lot better too.

Aside from many other factors.......we're moving the ball forward quicker than under Jos.  Bruce alluded to that and has stated how important it is. He just knows what he's f@cking doing......
