my favourite player of that period.

Immense

got a great reception when he came back as  a Chelsea player and rightly so.

didn't we turn down a 5 million pound bid then accept a 3 million bid a few months later

bizarre times.

and according to the kop band he looks like Paul warhurst

tards

It was a very dodgy deal. He went to Chelsea at a knock down price who quite quickly moved him onto Sunderland for 5 million. Then Dave Richards was elected EPL chairman courtesy of Ken Bates backing!

Of the centre-halves I seen, Des Walker was the best, Mick Lyons a close second and then I honestly believe Peter Shirtliff was third best. Hard then to decide an order between Pearson, Viv Anderson and Emerson Thome.

Shitliff better than Pearson...wow controversial!

I think his first game for them was against us. I think I went to thecaway match and he threw his Chelsea shirt to The Wednesday fans.

Did I dream this?

I know its been done to death and its all pointless thinking about it, but Big Ron was putting a cracking side together, he was getting the best out of average players like Nolan and Rudi as well as the Italian fancy dans and then picking up signings like Alexandersson and Thome for change from the back of the sofa. If he had had the money that Wilson subsequently blew...

I'm a pretty calm guy, but I worry that one day Ill find myself at the top of an escalator with Dave Richards...

Really liked him. Tough as owt. I remember Duncan Ferguson bouncing off him.

Best memory is of being a 14 year old kid and we saw him in the club shop before a cup match against Stockport. He signed by ticket and them scored a header in the match. Remember being nervous about approaching him. He was on his phone and saw me looking nervously towards him. I clearly remember him saying will call you back and came right over to me and talked for a while. Came across as a real gent.

The day they've signed my ticket was the day after my grandad passed away. Has always stuck in my mind.

I remember the singing the 'the little drummer boy' song at Chelsea not long after we sold!

Didn't it go something like this (All within the space of about 10 days) -:

  • Chelsea offer £6m
  • We knock it back say he's worth £7m
  • Emersons agent says If he's worth £7m why's he being paid like a £350k player...
  • Chelsea offer £4m
  • We snap their hand off.
