Expectation is the enemy of happiness

Other than them having "third division" players that is.

OK most of the OP is spot on. In an ideal world, most of our neighbours players would be league one or two players. Wilder has got a team of over achieving journeymen but the key word here is team.

I keep hearing that we have a good side on paper.  Keep hearing we should be battering teams like Rotherham

It doesn't work like that. It's what you do on the pitch.

Having some 'name' players means nothing.  Its about the team collective and character.

Sadly , for evidence of that you only need look across the City. Because "on paper" there's a lot of third division players there.

But on the park, they're fit organised and and dynamic..

We have a team with no dynamism. It's not going to be an easy fix.

I'm just surprised that anyone thought this season would be anything other than midtable at best before a ball was kicked in the summer.

We're actually bang on course for where we should be given our pace-less, lethargic, slow paced side.

The "good side on paper" argument became null and void a long time ago.

When you spend two whole seasons yoyo-ing between mid table mediocrity and flirting with relegation, there can be no basis to that notion.

The squad is lacking in so many aspects. Not only is it woefully unbalanced, and lacks any variation offensively, mentally and physically we are left floundering.

The squad is incapable of playing at a high tempo because physically they aren't up to it. We cannot function when put under any stress or pressure whatsoever.

It's all well and good possessing players who look nice when things are going well and you're having things your own way. But that's not football. Teams prevent that from happening. Reach, Bannan, Joao, Boyd, Palmer, Fox, Hector, Lees, Pelupessy... all are unable to produce their best when put under pressure...either physically or mentally.

That's the heart of the problem. Both Carlos and Jos have lost their jobs on the back of these players failing to do their job. Bruce has to make sure he's not number three. He needs to weed out the pansies and replace them with players capable of performing under a range of circumstances.

That's what Wilder's done. United haven't got the best players in the division, but they've got players who stand up and be counted. Players who are willing to go the extra mile. Players who are capable of playing at a tempo other teams cannot cope with it.

Thats whats required here.

It's about getting the right players at the right time isn't it.

They've one. We've collected players who might have played at a slightly higher standard but who are past their sell-by date.

Or players not equipt for the rough and tumble of this division.

Sadly the recruitment team/decisions when cc was here has nearly ruined us and its going to be no quick fix, ime sure bruce has a comprehensive list of players he wants rid of.

I seriously doubt united will have the legs to go up.. they'll make it to the playoff lottery though. Every dog has its day, even yorkshire terriers that sound like their not even from yorkshire

It wouldn't surprise me if they nicked one of the auto spits.  I think it's a race that will go right to the wire.
