Our settled back 4

Recommended Posts

Last 9 games since Jos:-

5 goals against

6 clean sheets

16 points (equates to 82 pt season)

7 times -

Palmer Hector Lees Fox

2 times -

Palmer Hector Thorniley Fox

Hutch has played the last 8.

Westwood all 9

Credit to Bully and Bruce for sorting out our horrendous defence. We have gone from being the worst to the best overnight. That’s some feat.

Credit to the players of course. Palmer, Fox and to a lesser extent Lees, have been hammered this year. Impossible to argue (though one or two were trying recently) that Fox and Palmer dont do a good job.

So we have the new Dixon-Adams-Bould-Winterburn in our ranks. All we need to do now is find the new Ian Wright.

In the last 10 we've had the 2nd best in the league with 7 against, only bettered by Bristol on 6.

However, we also have the 2nd joint lowest goals scored, with 7.

You know you have a problem when you go on your best defensive run in years based on the last 10 games, and your goal difference is still 0. lol

It's not changed then!

I kept on my way that night and landed at a place called the George where they did me beef and Yorkshire puddings and let me use the phone behind the bar. Smashing. Rather wish stayed here all evening looking back!

It’s crying out for pace up top to penetrate why not go lazar on left Aaron’s on right fessi and fletcher up to hutch and bannan in centre

Joao from bench

against reading we peppered their goal but against millwal we offered nothing I’m surprised we don’t go with pace

I didn’t think Boyd did bad when he gone on at half time but I was surprised Bruce went with him instead of pace

Just goes to show that sometimes fans DO know better than the manager.

When Jos was in charge the vast majority of fans would’ve said

- Play Westwood not Dawson

- Play Hutchinson not Joey

- Stick with a settled formation

- Play the same personnel for a run of games

In the end, that’s what happened. And it worked. We were right.

Some were also slating Fox and Palmer and saying they should never play for us again. Works both ways.

Vastly improved at the back. Clem & Aggie deserve some credit for that too. They began the process for tightening us up that Bruce now profits from.

Jos only once started a back 4 of Palmer Lees Hector Fox, in the 3-1 defeat at Birmingham.

His mix and match defences were bound to feature the combination at least once by chance!

Earlier in the season though he kept a back 4 of Palmer Lees Thorniley Penney for 4 straight games that were 3 wins and a draw.

But the next game was Baker Lees Thorniley Fox, and then Baker Lees Hector Pudil, it really was as if he was just going through

every combination for the sake of it.

If Dawson had had the same set up with Hutch playing as Westwood has had then im 100% sure he would have kept more clean sheets

Hutch sat in front of the back 4 is the difference IMO

Think I preferred Lawrie Madden’s views on life.

We all know it’s single-handedly down to Kieran Westwood. He just stares at the opposition, runs his fingers across his throat, and their legs go all wobbly.
