Nothing compared to his earning potential he'd have had. Dave Sexton used to rave about hums potential.
Etchesketch
Some great answers on here. Players fall into different criteria here. Ones who disappeared without trace after being red hot when kids: Nathan Modest Mark Platts Mark McKeever Francesco Sanetti Those who had decent careers put perhaps didn't reach the heights we thought they might: Mark Beevers Chris Bart Williams Paul Warhurst Dalian Atkinson Ritchie Humphreys Or those that were robbed: Ian Knight
kernowl
Thought Andy Crane would be awesome. Siggi Jonsson might have been but for Souness....Paul Warhurst should have been an England striker for years.

A player who had everything and could and should have had his choice of clubs in World Football he had that much potential. Some players are a flash in the pan. Hit a purple patch which make us think they're better than they are in reality. But Dalian was the real thing. He just never applied himself fully. Not so much a flash in the pan as a waste of a genuine top drawer talent. The lad should have had a bagful of International caps. the old 'adage' that was spoken of george best, 'how good could he have been?' i'd have to say rodger wylde ante mirocevic ritchie humphries jonsson sinton colin west debilde owusu windass more recently beevers, clinton morrison, ryan lowe, leon knight, abdi, matias, BOTHROYD, and winnall (stil hoping for the latter). Not so much a flash in the pan as a waste of a genuine top drawer talent. The lad should have had a bagful of International caps. Unless I'm remembering it wrong at one stage that season Atkinson had about 14 goals to Hirst's 2 or 3. They both finished the season on about 16 goals. I met Hirsty once and asked him about Dalian Atkinson. I told him he was the only player I'd seen that made Hirsty look slow. He said yes he was very fast but for himself. They should have been unstoppable together but maybe what Hirsty said and the scoring turnaround in the second half of the season meant they would never really gel together so it was probably for the best he went to Real Sociedad although we didn't think so at the time.Hirsty also said that Paul Williams was his favourite strike partner as he was totally unselfish.
Pablo Bonvin
Dean Barrick seemed to appear then disappear again. And don’t forget we fought others off to sign Stevie May......

Souness went straight through him about 1 second after kick off in an international. He was carried off but we had only just signed him so it wasn't career threatening. he went to Arsenal for about 600k I think and then had to "retire" with a back problem. I saw him on Sky playing centre back for Dundee Utd (I think it was Dundee Utd anyway) a few years later. He was a frustrating player as he hardly ever got in front of the ball. Similar to Ray Wilkins whenever he did go forward he caused a lot of problems. Should have been capable of so much more.
basegreenowl
Chris Bart Williams. We bought him as a teenager and he was years ahead of his age. Thought he'd do more in the game. Remember seeing Lloyd Awusu tearing up Rotherham all game long but proved pretty hopeless for us.
