ZicoSterland2
Wondered about others views on players who made such an early impact that we thought they were destined for the very top. Mine has to be Ritchie Humphreys. Started in a blaze of wonder goals only too vanish within 3 seasons. Had a solid career at a lower level but never hit those heights again. Pulsar
Regi Blinker after an amazing goal away at Villa, I'm sure it was his debut?
woldsowl
Owen Morrison of course, world beater throughout his career.
Popular Post areNOTwhatTHEYseem
I once turned to my mate as we nestled in the South Stand and predicted that Sean McAllister would go on to be a Premier League footballer one day. I've not done pre-match shots of absinthe since. Edited February 9, 2019 by areNOTwhatTHEYseem

McShefferty
Akpo Sodje. I remember the first game of 2008 season when we smashed Burnley 4-1, he looked unstoppable, then went off injured :(

Jesus h christ I thought we'd finally signed someone who would be that player. Terrifying anti climax.

Was there remember the wild celebrations as he scored at the Kop end on and off the pitch. Think he only made about 3 more appearances.
Lord Snooty
Dalian Atkinson. A player who had everything and could and should have had his choice of clubs in World Football he had that much potential. Some players are a flash in the pan. Hit a purple patch which make us think they're better than they are in reality. But Dalian was the real thing. He just never applied himself fully. Not so much a flash in the pan as a waste of a genuine top drawer talent. The lad should have had a bagful of International caps. 1

Imagine what could have been if we’d kept those two together longer and they would have looked after their bodies better.

Definitely, a potential major star, and a decent bloke, but someone who was easily led by a dubious choice of friends
1961OWL
Ziggi Jonsson. Looked like he had it all at such a young age. Think Souness finished his career.
Jim
In the early days I thought Mark Beevers was destined for the Top. Decent defensively and good on the ball. He's still played at a decentish level but never made the premier league which I thought he would when he first broke through into our team.
