Sam Winnall & Gary Hooper

It's shocking how much football our forwards have missed due to injury, isn't it?

Even João seems incapable of playing too many games in a row, leaving Nuhiu as our only reliably fit front man.

Carvalhal's decision to play Hooper non-stop at the start of last season seems to have done some serious damage to him, which is really frustrating. If can find a way to get him and Forestieri fully fit and properly manage them through a season, we'd look a totally different team.

CC was on a definitive mission...he wasn't going to spare the horses...it was sh*t or bust all the way...

Yes.

Echo 100% what you say on flogging Hooper (and Fletcher) into the ground. It was so obvious one and/or other would blow up. Similarly FF was brought back too soon.

As for Nuhiu and Joao, they were treated more compassionately by arch-villain Jos, who took a tonking on here several times for “dropping” them.

Becsuse they offer different things, Winnall’s all Round game is no where near good enough

3 management teams won’t all be wrong on the same issue

3 management teams? TBF he's only really had 1 look at him when fully fit. Derby utilised him and he bagged goals

If you strip out Winnall’s penalty for Derby (always should for a like-for-like) then his record at Derby is exactly the same as Rhodes at Norwich. A goal every 150 mins of play.

So that’s two strikers who were poor for us but excel elsewhere.

There is no way on this earth you can say Rhodes is excelling at Norwich likewise for Winnall at Derby

Don’t think you can say either has excelled. Neither did enough to clinch a regular place in their respective teams

Goal every 150 minutes is excelling.

General play is another thing entirely.

For us they were crap and rarely scored.

For Norwich/Derby they may be crap but regularly scored.

When you are playing 10 minutes every other week, that 150 minutes is a decent length of time

If they were playing 75+ minutes a game then i'd class them as excelling

I really hope Norwich think he's doing well, that's all that matters.

Poor Gary.

Given his previous fitness record, starting Hooper in 22 of our opening 24 league fixtures (and using him as a substitute in the other two) which stretched from August until Boxing Day, might not have been the wisest move.

If Carvalhal had rested him every now and then, we might have had him available for a longer period of time.

I never knew that 150 minutes isn't the same amount of time depending on whether it's broken up into 10 minute or 75 minute chunks.

You learn something new every day around here, eh?

It is different in this discussion  - touch slow if you can't grasp that. Stick around though and keep learning

Is it though? I thought the discussion was how many goals per minutes are scored? Not how many goals per minutes per game?

In the whole discussion it was perceived as him doing well with the goals per minutes ratio.

Playing 90 minutes every week and scoring one every 150 minutes is doing well.

Coming on as a sub for 10 minutes every other week and scoring one every 150 minutes isn't player of the year material

I'm a bit bored of reading what "Hooper might do"....What "Abdi could be" etc.....Fair play to Winnal, it was us that shipped him out without giving him a fair crack, but there surely comes a time when you think, regarding Hoops, Abdi.....Its simply not going to happen..

There is no bigger fan of Hooper than myself, but I must agree with Steve Bruce that our playing staff is too large. We have too many 'long term injured', who, without being unsympathetic, but down-to-earth pragmatic, are useless to the club.  Any player who is off for a long term, and isn't available for selection, has a usefulness of ZERO

Were the decision to rest between Winnall and Hooper, it would have to fall to Winnall every time, since he can actually take the field.

We all tend to cling to the past, but fail to face up to the situation as it is NOW.

It's still the same minutes per goal ratio, though.

Arguably, it's more impressive to be able to score at such a rate when only getting fragments of game time here and there and having to quickly adjust to the pace of a game.
