IMO what we need in order of preference, assuming Hector signs...

Priority

CM

LB

Bonus

Another CM

ST (if Rhodes goes)

Fox and JvA can leave permanently. Thorniley and Penney can go on loan — Iorfa can cover at CB and Palmer/Odubajo are ok at LB. Dawson or Wildsmith can go on loan in January.

Don’t think we need another winger really — Odubajo can play there and we already have decent options in Reach, Harris and FF. Left-back is the priority after a CM for me. Palmer is doing a great job there but it’s not his natural position and I worry he’ll get found out against better sides. Lazaar made a difference as a quality, specialist left-back before getting injured. We have a good first XI and we’re only a few players from having a decent squad, let’s see what the next couple of days bring

You have just got rid of both our left backs.

Palmer and Odubajo are square pegs in round holes.

We are a team that needs balance.

Agreed... I’m advocating we sign a new specialist left-back (ideally two, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if Palmer or Odubajo had to play there due to injury or suspension). Then and only then should we look to move Fox on, and/or consider a loan for Penney. I’d like to see Penney given a chance here but I feel like regular football might be best for his development at this stage. Letting Fox leave permanently and Penney on loan, and replacing them with one permanent LB signing and one loan would be perfect, but it’s a lot of work to be done in two days.

As well as Palmer as done at Left back I can't see it becoming his permanent position.

I'd keep Fox and let Baker and Penney go out on loan.

Shaping up to be a decent but frugal window

In

Odubajo - free

Borner- free

Harris - free

Jones - free

Potentially in

Hector - £3.5 - 4m?

Luongo - free

Murphy- loan

Out

The Steve's - £4m

Joao - £5m

Potentially Out

Rhodes £4m?

To be fair that seems more realistic than me hoping to shift Fox and sign two new left backs, as well as finding a loan club for Penney.

Hopefully Penney will go on loan and we’ll then be able to sell Fox after he returns, with new signing/Penney eventually our first choices at left-back. Definitely think signing a quality new LB would give us a pretty good back 5 for this season though

Agree, think a loan for Penney would be good, but couldn't get a game last time he went out. Did he sit on the bench at both Mansfield and Bradford?

Hope I'm wrong, but think he may be one of those players that comes in, looks a worlddbeater to start with but can't maintain or fulfil the promise. A caolean  Iavery type scenario.

Same with Baker, both started great, but frankly very poor since and need to be out on loan.

I'm not a fan of Fox, but to be fair he has improved and is a capable and comparatively cheap back up option, if needed.

#WatfordFC have signed Danny Welbeck on a 3 year deal. 105k p/w.

He's got to be one of the luckiest (in a financial sense) players going, hardly kicks a ball but still keeps getting enormous contracts.

£16m+ over 3 years!!!! I'd be astonished if he plays 50 games over that period.

Probably looking to add pace and mobility to the front line.

Yes, needed. I suspected Rhodes and Joao out might see us try for another forward.

Still a long way to go in finalising deals, but got to say the club are doing the right things this window. Players out, decent money in and strengthening in the right areas.
