I don't think Fulham will be as bad off as everyone thinks. They have a very good spine to their team, £40m in parachute payments, add to that the likes of Sessegnon who could be sold for big money. With the right manager in I can see them being at least challenging to go straight back up. Speaking of Cairney, I read that he has signed a new deal recently which I'm very surprised about I expected him to stick around in the Premiership. Mr. Tom
Not a rumour but an “I wonder...” Moses Odubajo just been released by Brentford and their fans seem gutted and baffled in equal measure. 25, pace to burn, RB/RW, big favourite of Bruce a couple years ago who loaned him at Hull and immediately made him first choice, played 35 times for him. Then had a shocker of a knee injury and missed most of a year. Came back strong last season though, and apparently tore up the wing really well for Bees. Not a huge leap to imagine he might be on Bruce’s radar at least? Free transfer got to be tempting, him & Iorfa would be a handful down the right (or Iorfa to CB if Hec doesn’t happen)?

All fair points, though £40m won’t last much beyond their current crop of players’ contract expiry if those are the sort of fees they’ve shelled out for them. Will be very much a do or die year for them if they opt to try to keep the spine of that team together - be dire straits after next season if they go all in and don’t make it with a squad like that. Bear in mind Fulham have had a strong team for a few seasons now, and have so far only managed to get a real tune out of it the one time. edit: dun’t half sound like us, minus the one time Edited May 8, 2019 by Mr. Tom

He clearly likes it here but at the end of the day both he and his family are from the South. If teams such as Fulham with their parachute money are after him then we can't compete with them. Hector may well go for the convenience and financial benefits of Fulham or another club, not much we can do about it so we will have to move on. It does strike me that some players play for different clubs and don't really do that much and then they drop on another club and everything clicks. They find their true home, the way the club plays suits the player, he just gets better and better, the fans love him, it just works. Sometimes they see out their career at that club and become a legend, others get bought by another club based on their new found abilities, mega fee, big wages and then it just doesn't happen at the new club. I'm not saying that will happen to Hec, I hope it doesn't, I wish him well even if he moves elsewhere. I'm glad we had the pleasure of seeing him in our strip.

You mean a bit like Connor Wickham gone for big fees his whole career, a lot of injury problems but the only club where he was consistent performers was when he was on loan with us. Did I mention he is only 26 and has a year left in contract at Palace, big strong mobile striker, might be a useful loan for us if we can move a few of the forwards on, will give us what Fletcher does but somewhat more mobile. Odubajo saw plenty of us at Wembley though, bet he's made up to definitely be on his way here just like our Brucey.

But annoyingly, he only fondly remembers his time at Leeds In practically every interview, he finds reason to bring up his spell at Leeds, but never us, where he was more successful
JOHNHARKES
Wickhams Mrs a big Wednesday fan as well. Not that means a great deal. But not impossible to think could end up here. Had such bad luck with injuries and only 26.
gurujuan
I see another paper has linked us with Jordan Willis, although it probably came from the same source. I was under the impression he was a right back, but as was pointed out on here, he’s been operating as a centre back With reported interest from Derby, Forest and Bristol City, we would have competition He’s small for a centre back, only 5-11, so probably about the same size as Thorniley. Of course the great Des Walker was only 5-11, but he had electric pace, plus it was a different era. Nowadays it’s the norm for centre backs to stand 6-4 or more, with similarly sized defensive midfielders in front of them Back then, a six foot centre back was deemed a colossus

Nowadays it’s the norm for centre backs to stand 6-4 or more, with similarly sized defensive midfielders in front of them Back then, a six foot centre back was deemed a colossus You are correct about a trend for enormous centre backs. I also think pace at centre back is key requirement. in Hector Lees and Thorniley we had no pace in fact 3 slow players. if Willis is quick I could understand why we may be interested. I am not familiar with Willis and know nothing about his ability. Norwich employed Godfrey at centre back who is about 6ft but quick and it worked well. Lees and Thorniley are both good in air for height but struggle against the more muscular powerful type of forward. Hector when arrived missed quite a lot of headers but has season progressed improved considerably. our defence was also helped by fletcher Joao and Nuhiu who won many defensive headers. if team defend higher and rely on pace as long as you have height in team to defend set pieces can get away with it. Therefore think it depends on way team to be set up but a quick centre back would be good to have. I was surprised to find that Godfrey came to Wednesday on trial, think it was summer CC took over and we rejected him now valued at over £20 million. sMacLean
Vydra has struggled at Burnley, might be worth seeing if we can get him in on loan and to a lesser extent Nahki Wells who I really rate but struggled at QPR if we ship out most of our forwards. Matt Connolly at Cardiff a very experienced defender that Hull were after. Decent experience at this level, Bruce will shop well I'm sure. Odubajo would be great. Swiss Toni
I'd definitely be comfortable with this defence (plus cover) next season. Wouldn't break the bank either. K. Westwood C. Dawson M. Odubajo J. Knudsen L. Palmer M. Penney T. Lees LOAN D. Iorfa J. Thorniley Odubajo and Knudsen have both been released. We know how good Odubajo is and Knudsen is a solid international LB. I'd love Hector back on loan but think he will sign permanently with someone. I hope it's us but if not we can easily bring in a solid CB on loan again.
