Completely wrong approach to the game

We are worlds apart from the likes of Chelsea,Man City.

We were second best all night and there is no shame in that performance. We were only allowed to play as well as Chelsea allowed us.

They closed us down.....we didn't

They retained the ball.......we didn't

They had pace all over the pitch....we didn't

They were clinical at finishing.....we didn't get many chances.

We were beaten by a better side.

No surprise. Disappointing yes.

Our tactics need a complete overhaul.

Agree with all apart from last line.

Take Chelsea's back four today. that's a top 4 premier league back four even with out Luiz.

Let's say we would have gone with Joao and Matias even Forestieri and took the game to them. Ruediger alone would have match any pace, power, trickery any had on show.

Like you said player wise we are world's apart.

However we have a team quite capable of taking Ipswich apart on Saturday and I expect them to show it. Today we wasn't allowed to because in every aspect of the game they were better than us and rightly so as they are elite players.

I feel the matter how we approach the game today it would’ve been the same result

Chelsea are just in a class of their own and always will be around the top four in the premiership

I’d sooner see you the team go out there and Give it real good go maybe come out bad losers but at least seen more determination and grit In the performance today was absolutely shocking I know they are good but I think we giving them way too much respect

I think we are either very low on confidence or have no fight, poor performance. Look at other lower league clubs, all went for it and some won against all the odds. Embarrassing again Wednesday.

How many of the lower league clubs were away and up against Higuain, Willian, Azpilicueta, Alonso, Ruediger.

Add that to the fact Chelsea have been absolutely unreal in the FA cup in recent years.

It's not an embarrassment. An embarrassment would be the same on Saturday against Ipswich.

first attack we made we earned a pen (nearly )and would have if it wasn't for var , sadly that knocked our duck off and we reverted to normal ,Fletch was winning a few in their box but we had no one following in , needed at least two up front from the start  , Chelsea on the other hand backed the forwards up and always got in and around the box when they decided to attack ,Tonight we played the game they wanted us to play and fell for it sadly, harrying and pressing them would have done better for

us tonight , but we let them settle big mistake

We just dont seem to have an attack based tactic.

1 forward in every game doesn't put the opposition on the back foot.

We need to be passing forward and running at their defences creating havoc.

I'm sure many people on here watch the likes of Man City,Utd,Arsenal,Liverpool and the rest. Where do many goals come from?

Counter attacks with pace.

What happened when we had a throw in their final third?

Ìt went backwards and finished up with Westwood. The commentator picked up on it.

Since Cc's first season we don't seem to have the same mentality.

We want and need attacking fast football.

Hopefully under Bruce we will get it, but today is not the game to judge it on.

They are high for Saturday, when we are not up against some of the best players for there counties let alone there club.

Well lets hope we get 3 points, anything less would be unacceptable under the current circumstances.

Don’t often come on here and disagree with a large majority - but what do people expect.

There are clearly a lot of armchair football managers on here who have played too much FIFA or Football Manager and lost a sense of reality.

We COULD have gone and had a right go at one of the best slick passing sides in the country - most likely result of that though would have been that we would have left spaces all over the park for them to explore and probably batter us by 5 or 6.

There would have been such a small chance that if we had a go they had an off day and we manage to turn it on like against Arsenal (reserves) a few years ago.

Our best chance of a result was to keep the game tight and try and nick something late on. Why do you think Westwood too so much time over goal kicks when we were 1-0 down. Why do you think we had a very attacking biased bench?

it didn’t work - without VAR it may have been a different story. Who gives a poo

We move on - was a great day out.

Mate don’t come on here talking sense

we should have had at least 3 up front against Chelsea’s ‘reserves’

Surprised by the reaction here. Presume FF and Joao left on bench because not fully fit. But even if they were, made sense to keep it tight and try and nick something.

Chelsea are light years away from us. They passed it round us without breaking sweat. If we had pushed up they would have embarrassed us with a 5 or 6 nil. Maybe more.

Yes we don't have any pace. Not a great deal the caretaker manager can do about this is there? Far more important that FF and Joao stay fit for the league- Nando's hamstrings will be a constant  worry now.

Super backing by our fans tonight. Shame we weren't in a better position to challenge Chelsea a bit more and give them some reward.

If wed have gone for it tonight and took a good hiding, the danger was we could have took that baggage into the Ipswich game and got a negative performance.

We can make a bit of headway over the next month or so,and climb the table,a positive result down at portman rd could be a springboard for that

Tonights performance was an insult to all those fans who spent a lot of money and time making the journey to London.

We had lost before we kicked off.

Last year against Swansea we did exactly the same.

What a shower.

To be fair last year we had a chronic injury crisis and were protecting players while trying not to get relegated. Reality is we couldn't compete.

But yes, the fans deserve better.

I didn’t mind us keeping things tight first half, but what I did mind was the total lack of a plan B once we went behind. We needed to come out after half time and take the game to them, but Agnew didn’t put a team out capable of doing it and didn’t make the subs which could have changed that until it was far too late.

I got the feeling that while Agnew is holding the fort for Bruce he didn’t dare be as adventurous as he needed to be to get anything, from the game. Frankly it felt like an exercise in damage limitation, which was pretty frustrating for everybody who travelled down to back the team.

I don't think you understand football.

Setting up to 'not getting thrashed' isn't about aiming to lose 3 nil, rather than 6.

It's about keeping in the game as long as possible & hoping to nick it at end or get a replay.

Forget the scoreline.... we're out and goal difference doesn't matter in this competition.

If you're happy with Chelsea lining up attack after attack like a training game then crack on.

This thread should be re named the moaning because I’m a bell end thread. We did well. If we had ‘gone fo it’ we’d have lost 7 or 8 nil . Super duper Nando did naff all when he came on and obviously shouldn’t have started , so those saying that are just plain daft. Joey and hutch was the right move and played well, joey in particular. I’ve seen some moronic threads slating fox and this one is just as stupid . They won because they have top class players , we don’t. We don’t even have top end championship players. But, having said that, they can hold their head up high, they dug in and 3 nil flattered Chelsea.

Our fans are moronic sometimes , just like when we win we are heading for the play offs and when we lose we are going down . No, it’s all bull shittte. Truth is a mediocre 2nd tier side did well and got pipped by a side comfortably in the worlds top 20 .
