Mole
Following on from the thread when we've sat in the home end at away grounds, does anybody have any tales of opposing fans in the home stands at Hillsborough? I can remember an odd one, we were at home to Gillingham, and there were three Gills fans next to me in the North Stand. It just seemed quite odd as there were about 300 in the away end, so it wasn't sold out! Also one was a woman, so I can't imagine they were a bunch of banned hooligans! Just seems very odd that you'd actively choose not to sit with your own fans. They did score too, and it was a sort of mumbled 'yes' from them. Weird! legendaryswan
I can recall quite a few,Leeds always used bring loads to us and would be in all parts of the ground,Spurs back in the 60s,Leicester in 70/71 but they got booted off,as did a small band of Millwall fans back in the 70s,Forest covered the kop one year, like millwall got sent packing once the pubs turned out. The Villa promotion party in the 70s,they completely took over the kop,Man utd of course,a few blunts came on for gerry youngs testimonial but stayed well away from us,we payed the back at woodwards testimonial a few years later by taking their end. Boro came on one year but got shepherded into tango corner by the old bill. Chelsea came on for a cup tie, around 50,they got absolutely battered, the OB didnt take them off they just formed a protective barrier around the poor sods....they repaid us that battering a short time later down at the bridge, the met kops taking us to the tube suddenly melted and their mob came at us from every angle,it wasnt pretty and very few escaped without a beating, Edited January 24, 2019 by legendaryswan

That about 15 years ago - when they got pipped by WBA that day anyway! I remember we beat Boro 1-0 thanks to a late penalty a few years back. It became apparent one elderly bloke was a Boro supporter. Not a problem, just struck me as a little odd as the away end was not sold out.
NormOwl
If we are talking random ones, in 91 had 2 beer monster types with scruffy clothes from Port Vale in the old lower south towards the away end. They were both about 50 plus and could hardly stand up.

Really? Bloke attends a game of football. Gets punched in face by moronic supporters and he's to blame for cheering?
unkastav
I recall the filthy pigs had a fair few up top of north 1992 when we lost and woods had a mare. Wouldnt happen now thankfully.

Owl in Nottingham
I find this a very sad thread. I have taken visiting friends with me to matches at Hillsborough. Forest fans, Leeds fans, Brentford fans and Arsenal fans. I have sat with mates at City Ground, Elland Road and I was sat with Blunts supporters when Curran scored that wonder goal in the Boxing Day season return match. Why can't people tolerate somebody choosing to support a different team? I enjoy the win even more when my mates were supporting the opposition...who needs childish violence? woldsowl
Early 2000's, league Cup v the pigs. Small group in the South Stand Leppings Lane end. One of them starts getting a bit noisy, Wednesdayite strolls up to him and one punch sends him two rows further forward. Last he saw of the game. lanzaroteowl
Half a dozen Blunts came on the Kop either '80 league game or '81 cup game. Bottom corner near the South. Got found out when we scored and didn't remain long enough for the lads in the middle of the Kop to get there. Paid them back with 3000 on the Shoreham that year. Marc_Degryse
Flipping this topic on its head a bit, I've sat in the away end at Hillsborough before. It was the final game one season and we had to win to stay up, at home to Norwich who had nothing to play for. We sold out the home end but Norwich fans couldn't be bothered to turn up so I bought a ticket from them (non-Sheffield postcode I should add). Think it was this game: https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday-4-norwich-1-1-2499030 Cruised through in the end, was a brilliant day and well worth the hassle! Think I even started celebrating towards the end as Norwich fans didn't really seem to care as they were just happy the season was over
coopswfc76
yes I sat in away end at Hillsborough v Fulham in league cup a few years ago with no bother, Ques were stupid to get in home ends so just paid on lower lepp instead.
nevthelodgemoorowl
Think it must have been 65 or 66 before games started getting tribal. I was on my Dads shoulders at the back of the Stretford for our 7-2 cup replay win, No trouble. That was 1960. The following season Spurs came to Hillsborough with 11 wins on the trot under their belt. 59,000 in the ground Spurs fans many in number were spread throughout the ground. Man U were the same spread around the ground. Little pockets of trouble but by enlarge they died down. Our 66 cup run was the first time I recall us as a team being corralled into two areas of the grounds, I say two because there was reserved seating set aside for the posh & elderly fans. A couple of years on the agro, the big players were.... Stoke City, Liverpool, Man U, Millwall, Leeds and Chelsea but Chelsea were a little later on the scene. Not forgetting our old friends the blunts. We were stirred occasionally but it was usually in response to events on the pitch or other fans behaviour.
