The main reason you hear about it so much more on Windows is down to the install base of Windows systems compared to Linux systems (75% to 2%). Install VPN, only pay monthly, and preferably, use a non-UK provider to avoid shutdown of service. Paying monthly minimises loss of subscriptions if service is taken down.
