The Star: Boyd's Turnaround

It's almost as if a good number of the Owlstalk posts are made in ignorance of what a player has done before isn't it?

The same morons are convinced that Dave Jones has never been a player despite his record prior to joining Wednesday.

Probably the same mindset that leads to this obsession with signing former loanees.

My gripe was we were signing too many older players with no resale value on big wages.

You can't argue that out of the three ex Burnley boys that had won promotion the only ''One" so far who has had a real impact for us is Wallace was fantastic and really help push us on, but unfortunately age had began to catch up with him. As for the other 2 Jones and Boyd they just never got going here, sometimes a player just Dosent fit a club, maybe we can add abdi to that one too. lol

Footballer excelling when finally deployed to his strengths shocker.

Think excelling is kind. Hes done decent but nothing special. Its mainly because he looked so disinterested before that the contrast has been favourable to him. Id get rid in the summer. We need someone with pace and the desire to play. Boyd looks slow and on his way down.

You didn't see the Birmingham game? He was outstanding IMO.

I have to be honest and say when I saw his name on the team sheet that day it was like 'meh'

But he put in a decent performance that day and hopefully we'll see more like that as he regains fitness and confidence.

Remember when a right midfielder was being played at left wing back. :luhukay:

Yes, I always thought George Boyd must have dreamt of playing left back for Sheffield Wednesday.

Remember when Carlos played Adam Reach at left back and we all thought he'd wasted another £5m?

To give Jos some credit, from before he lost the plot / threw in the towel, look what's happening to Reach's transfer price now.

Talking of the Star did Madine ever wear number 9 for us?  I thought it was 14 or 12

Good point especially with the League One shirt being burnt.

Maybe a pyromaniac Blade in disguise / Star Reporter burning another Wednesday shirt because the day ends in Y?

would love to know what the heck really happened with Jos sidelining these players

cannot understand why DC paying through the nose for so many players that Jos wouldnt play,  didnt have him in the office and say WTF is going on?

I think Jos had a remit to build for the future .. so brought in youngsters to blood them and get them used to championship football now and to leave out the players that will probably be leaving in the summer, that way the youngsters will have a season experience under their belt and be better prepared for next season rather than chucking them in the deep end next year ..

That being said, he shot himself in both feet with his chopping and changing of players, formation and tactics. If he'd have stuck to 1 formation, tactics etc .. we'd be in a lot better position i believe then we found ourselves when Jos was relieved of his duties ...

I know he’s gone but I hope he’s sat at home in Holland feeling a right tw*t at the mess he made of things whilst he was here

Got a feeling Jos will still think he was right. That was the problem with his management style. Any who disagreed were frozen out no matter what the consequences.

I meant as in pace, he is a lot slower than he was. He still has his work ethic he would run through walls.

He looked a lot quicker against Birmingham than I've ever seen him in one of our shirts, he's not going to outpace Reach/Forestieri but he's no "cement legs" yet, fortunately.

I don't think Jos could deal with big characters.

The calling up of youth was as much to do with having players who wouldn't question his methods as it was giving them a chance.

Boyd and a few others have been around long enough to know when something isn't working.

To be fair I agree. Whenever he'd played before he did look cement legged. But as you say in the West Brom and Birmingham he did look significantly quicker than previously. I think hes a good player its just a pity its taken this long to get to him.
