Ante's Bubbly

Who's opinion do we trust most, Stan Collymore or Peter Swan?

Recommended Posts

I actually don’t mind Stan. Sticks up for fans against football greed and is refreshingly honest. Obviously what he did to Ulrika was unforgivable but presumably those hating him for this also hate Gazza?

His comments have huge claret and blue tints on them. A bit like asking a passionate Wednesday fan to comment on Carlos last Christmas, unlikely to get a balanced view.

Just why would anybody follow Collymore?

Should be ignored by all and left to wallow in his own muck.

Like most on here.  Happy with this. Solid appointment pity we tinkered around for so long with JL but it’s done now.

Hope we’ll have a solid finish and who

knows.  There’s usually a side that comes with a late run.  You never know.

Brucies son Alex has been defending him on twitter for what happened at Villa. one of the things he came up with was quite impressive

n 2018 until the day he was sacked Villa were the 2nd highest goal scorers in Britain behind Man City not bad eh!! & in his last 6 years as a champ manager he’s never finished a season less than 4th

Statistics are statistics.....fabricated soundbites are fa bricated soundbites....bruce took Villa close and lost in the play off final....cos it was "The Villa"..This is somehow unacceptable to Stan...Get real...Villa are in the Championship, the parachute payments are running out, the advantage is decaying...Welcome to our world

A bit of Stan the Man bashing here, I think Collymore coming to terms with his depression and mental illness has been a most progressive step forward for him. He has shown remorse and regret for his erratic behaviour. He along with Clarke Carlisle and more latterly our very own Chris Kirkland have taken the lid off how zero-hero-zero ride for footballers and how it effects them. Some of our fans were quick to attack Bruce for being relaxed about his start date. Yet Bruce who had lost both parents in the preceding year of his appointment, we read it like Wednesday were the most important thing in the world.

Collymore is Villa through and through so loyalty to the club will prevail. Swann (the lesser) has no such Loyalty to Villa or Wednesday so we expect and get a more balanced opinion. Simple as that really !

Perhaps Collymore would have been wise to consider what Bruce has been through in the past year and take this into account instead of writing him off as a bad manager based on a couple of iffy months at Villa. His managerial career suggests he is much better than that and even his time at Villa should be seen as fairly successful based on the mess the club was in when he took over.

Stan Collymore is an ex footballer who thinks he’s an intellectual because he can string two sentences together.

Collymore's comments seems to mirror what Villa fans have said about Bruce.

Basically it got to a point where what he was doing didn't make any sense to anyone.

Of course we're all entitled to deny that as a reality and make like he's the 2nd coming.

Villa not really turning up any trees since his departure.  Their fans need a reality check, that squad was never preordained for a quick return.

Bruce took villa from bottom half to playoff final.

A combo of club and personal turmoil seemed to hamper the third season.

If bruce gets us anywhere near the playoff final then he’s already been a big improvement.

Nothing is guaranteed but Bruce will communicate at least and the gap between club and fans closes immediately

Absolutely this ^

Some folk make me laugh, Steve Bruce has a history of getting clubs promoted from this division yet the old chestnut that keeps getting trotted out is his “failure” at Villa, a club he took to the playoff final.

Who is this alternative manager that has his history of success that they were hoping for?

At least let him get through the door before he gets written off, eh?

What do we really know about Steve Bruce?

Achieved great success as a player with Man Utd winning 3 Prem Leagues, 3 FA Cups, 1 League Cup and the Eu Cup Winners' Cup therefore a proven winner.

Trusted to captain Norwich, England B, Man Utd & Birmingham therefore a capable leader.

Resigned at Pigs citing turmoil in the boardroom and a lack of funds. Quit Wigan for Palace, Palace for Birmingham. Birmingham for Wigan. Wigan for Sunderland. Quit Hull for Villa. Therefore questionable loyalty

Sacked by Huddersfield, Sunderland & Villa. Therefore has struggled to turn round sinking ships.

Promoted to Premier League with Birmingham (twice), Hull, (twice). Reached FA Cup final with Hull. Therefore capable of gaining promotion from the Championship.

Pl. 886, W341 (38%) D219, L326.

Therefore not exactly Guardiola, Ferguson or Shankly. However, probably the best available option given our current position. So, let’s forget opinion, anecdote and rumour. Let’s give the new manager 100% support and hope it’s the Birmingham / Hull Bruce that eventually turns up in Feb

One thing I will say, villa dont go up this year. Boy they are in trouble. Big time.

There are 2 ways the Steve Bruce appointment will end either he will get a better offer from another club at some stage in the future or he will pass his sell by date with us and the clamour for his sacking will eventually force him out.

Until that time I'm going to enjoy the ride and hope it takes us to the Premier League.

As usual I'll make my own judgement.

Happy at present that we have got some with experience of the division.

"Expect lots of signings that the manager doesn't fancy, lots of loans, wing backs then end up as a back five, and lots of post match comments that bear no relation to the game you saw!”

Should slot in just fine then...
