TrickyTrev
From what Clem was saying, we approached Bruce and he said he couldn't take the job due to prior family commitments meaning he wouldn't be available until the end of January. Chansiri said that's fine, we'll wait, you're the man we want. Bruce said fair enoughb and they both agreed. I don't really see the problem here, we've just bought a manager in who's got as many teams promoted to the Premier League as Neil Warnock.

Guest
1 hour ago, Lord Snooty said: Sheffield Wednesday have appointed Steve Bruce as their new manager. But the former Aston Villa boss will not take charge until February 1 due to a prior personal commitment, reports in the Midlands claim. According to some reports on Thursday, the commitment will see Bruce watch the England cricket team play in the West Indies. This has not been confirmed by Bruce or Sheffield Wednesday. However, at least one report suggests: "It appears as if Bruce’s arrival as new Sheffield Wednesday boss has been delayed as he wants to tick off an item on his bucket list: seeing an England cricket test in West Indies." England play in Barbados starting on January 23. Source : Birmingham mail January 23rd you say? Don't see this being an issue as it will basically be a weekend off for us anyway with the Brentford fixture postponed due to them still being in the cup and us having been knocked out! Rev Owl
If he does need a knee operation then maybe he needs something to do while he is recuperating. Like for example, watching cricket? Or he might like watching cricket and spent a lot of money on booking tickets and accommodation to follow England in the Windies on the spur of the moment when Villa sacked him. Or he could be taking the Mick. Or he might not be doing any of that. YOU decide.....

Womble Owl
So what if he does? fair play to him. If I had just got a new job, I'd expect my new employers to honour any pre booked and paid for holidays.

If, of course, it’s even true. Maybe he will but if he says I'm unavailable until Feb it's up to DC if he waits or tries to sign someone else... Big Jack
Imagine the vitriol on here if we learnt that DC would not appoint him as he would not start until 1st Feb. If you are making the right appointment its worth the wait.
kilbyj
If your annoyed by someone having prior arrangements, letting the club know during interview and club still deciding he's the man and both parties agreeing on a start date you need to give your head a wobble.

tarn owl
Not an issue. He only got sacked in October so obviously started filling his time. I don't really need to know the reason. 1st feb is fine and his coaches are already here so lets just crack on.
bigdan2003
Problem with some football fans is they think all basic human rights are not applicable to anyone in football. Remember when Grey had a prior commitment (his sons wedding) when he was manager? Edited January 3, 2019 by bigdan2003
PortlandOwl
Being a Yorkshire based club I know we have loads of cricket loving fans. Hopefully most will sympathise if it's true.
