Jos Luhukay

I know its in the past now but how bad was Jos Luhukay for this club, I’m always happy to give a manager a chance but apart from a little spell at the end of last season which raised expectation a little it was truly dire. The bizarre exclusion of senior players, odd team selections (no strikers at Millwall being a lowlight), poor substitutions and lack of motivation all counted towards his demise. It was quite refreshing to see some of the younger players being used but surely youngsters should only be getting a game if they are better than other available players, he may have seen the job as a more long term task but was only taking us one way and seemed stubborn to change. The resurgence and mood since he’s gone speaks volumes.

In my 40yrs of watching the Owls the worst managers have been Eustace, Turner and Irvine – I think Luhukay may have topped the lot.

Thats what got me wondering, it was bloody senseless..It simply sets you up for the opposition...

"Look we have no intention of threatening your goal"

It was if we had gone to the f.ookin' Etihad

Jo's made some very strange decisions and maybe one day we will find out why.

I think he was well supported by the fans until the last couple of months

The decision to leave out senior players totally bit him in the bum, as results have shown.

Sorry it didn't work out for him, but am excited about our future again.

Good luck Steve Bruce

Jos was given patience for a long while because we thought he "hadn't got the tools for the job"...turns out some actually were available and he would sooner lose points than lose face...

unforgiveable really..The club should come first

What was bizarre was the fact that we took the lead in the game, I thought hang on we've a tactical genius here, Millwalls goals soon after ended that notion.

I’m surprised DC allowed it to continue for so long At what point did DC give up on promotion this season? It seems he still hasn’t, so I find it totally bizarre that he would allow his manager to “throw in the towel” so early in the season Yes, we know the chairman is loyal to his managers, but when an employee seems so at odds with what you are trying to achieve, you have to act

His time had run, but we may benefit from his decisions down the line.

Baker, Preston, Dawson et al all have some first team football under their belts.  Will be a lot easier for Bruce when he has to clear out the high earners and rely on these guys more that they have worn the shirt already.

We are in a sort of honeymoon period at the moment where players who have been very injury prone are fresh and fit as Jos has hardly played them.  Time will tell whether Fletcher, Hutch, Westwood etc can sustain fitness for any period of time.

Westwood shouldn't have a problem with fitness...and the way Fletcher put himself about New years day hardly made him look infirm....I agree we might need to nurse Fletcher a bit, cos he takes some almighty hammer

I genuinly think he was trying to implement a long term plan.

The thing is of course you can't do that at the expense of the present.

It cost him his job.  And rightly so as we were staring at the abyss

I thought so too.  But the constant lineup changes for no apparent reason, up until the bitter end?

The line up changes were a while different ball game again.

If he'd stuck with 11 players and one system for more than 90 minutes he might have given himself half a chance

I can see that Jos was trying to bring the young players through and think it's admirable that he tried to do so. In my mind though it is better to bring them in to a winning team where they have experienced players around them. Throwing 3 or 4 young lads into a team that is struggling is a recipe for disaster. The team will fail and the pressure on the youngsters can seriously set back their progress.

It was a good idea in principle but it failed. when it failed JL should have gone back to basics and played his experienced players with one youngster only introduced into the side each game.

It will be interesting to see if Bruce plays the young players or stays with experience.

I take it you went around to witness the Steve Burtenshaw era if you think Jos is the worst manager we have had.

He needed to phase the younger players in.

But the key thing was a lack of understanding of football culture here. The players expected a team talk and words after a game. It was reportedly not his thing. They were clearly very unhappy at being left to sort it themselves and it was a negligent approach to refuse to adapt.

Bang right...the clue is in the job title. A manager should manage.
