toppOwl
I know its in the past now but how bad was Jos Luhukay for this club, I’m always happy to give a manager a chance but apart from a little spell at the end of last season which raised expectation a little it was truly dire. The bizarre exclusion of senior players, odd team selections (no strikers at Millwall being a lowlight), poor substitutions and lack of motivation all counted towards his demise. It was quite refreshing to see some of the younger players being used but surely youngsters should only be getting a game if they are better than other available players, he may have seen the job as a more long term task but was only taking us one way and seemed stubborn to change. The resurgence and mood since he’s gone speaks volumes. In my 40yrs of watching the Owls the worst managers have been Eustace, Turner and Irvine – I think Luhukay may have topped the lot. Lord Snooty
I genuinly think he was trying to implement a long term plan. The thing is of course you can't do that at the expense of the present. It cost him his job. And rightly so as we were staring at the abyss 4
eccentric owl
Glad he's gone. Can't believe how poor he was in so many departments. We tried to back him for as long as we could but there's only so much rubbish you can get served up before it's time to leave. At least dc saw sense in the end. Blooding the young ones. Not using players who didn't have a long term future. You can understand it. But. .. You have to win games. And if you aren't ....then you have to bite the bullett and even players whose contracts are up in the summer or they are actively available to other clubs. And not in the long term plans ..You still use them while they are here.
Middlewood Owl
Just relived its over and I can actually start enjoying my football again. The last few months have been been horrendous it was getting to the stage where I didn't want to go anymore, we would surely have gone down had Jos been allowed to continue. Sonny
Not really bizarre - There was method to it all. He was just really really bad at implementing it.
bigdan2003
I think what Snooty says about him trying to build for the long term is true. Although I kind of understand his thought process on that, his implementation of it was a disaster. I’m fine with promoting youth, but he did too much too soon. He should have utilised our more experienced players whilst gelling our younger players into the squad. His constant swapping and changing of the squad, his defensive tactics, and his instance on playing out from the back. He was out of his depth, it’s as simple as that. Maybe in Germany the lower divisions are more forgiving and give you more time to experiment and tart about with the lineups/formation. What I find the most striking is the amount of space we gave up, how he was putting players in strange postions, the different line-ups every week, how he was constantly asking players to play roles alien to them. how he was giving the younger players massive responsibility and how we weren't setting up to win games. All very bizarre after what we had seen at the end of last season. It's like he was set up to fail or wanted to fail. How could nobody not have a word in his shell like? And why/how come he didn't listen? And i'm not just talking about mushrooms. I don't know much about German football but i've seen a match in Holland with Groningen and it looked like the players were having a run about in the park...with very very little tackling or closing down. TodwickOwl
He had the right idea - just couldn’t implement it. He shouldve brought in the youth that were ready and blended that to learn off the experience with the older and experienced e.g Thorniley, Penney. Not Baker, Kirby, Preston etc who were nowhere NEAR good enough just yet. He burnt bridges and couldnt go back - that was his downfall

Fed up of evening reading about him mate...His name even infuriates me!!! All this about a long term plan...really?? He dropped 3/4 players he had at his disposal and set us back many many months, dropping points and making us worse, whilst having the tools there to do his job properly. The man was inept, clueless and way out of depth. A nice man he may have been but he was a terrible manager...possibly the worst this club as had. Thank god he’s gone and we can move on...no sympathy from me on this one!!
Arthur Bach
We defo need a Wicker Man type effigy in Hillsborough Park of Jos in his knitwear and indigo jeans to burn whilst chanting 'Atkinsons Barmy Army' and watching Cantona train on grass.
Bluesteel
He needed to phase the younger players in. But the key thing was a lack of understanding of football culture here. The players expected a team talk and words after a game. It was reportedly not his thing. They were clearly very unhappy at being left to sort it themselves and it was a negligent approach to refuse to adapt. Pablo Bonvin
Don't think anyone deliberately sets out to do a bad job, but that is how it ended up and that's how he'll be remembered.

And we do have some poor players, whom he could not change for others. Despite the better spirit, yesterday we saw again poor play from a centre back costing a goal, struggling players at full back, a midfield where even the star players Bannan and Reach were very poor, and hardly a decent shot or header on target until the last five minutes. JL recognised he had to look for quality among the youth players although he obviously was wrong to expel the better veterans like KW and GB.
