What is the best 11 if we don’t sell and don’t buy

Recommended Posts

It’s a bloody hard one to fathom.

A few positions are obvious:

The goalkeeper is Westwood

Three of the defenders are Palmer, Lees and Hector

Obvious midfielders are Bannan, Reach and Hutchinson (if he can last the game)

Essential forwards are Fletcher, Joao, Mattias and Forestieri.

But a team couldn’t be made from those players - it would be lopsided.

I also think I've missed some other obvious “starters”.

I’d like to see a left sided centre back in the team, as it brings better balance to the side. It’s strange, left sided centre backs are generally a sought after commodity, and we have three of them, Pudil, Van Aken and Thorniley. We also have young Issac Rice, who by all accounts, is a real talent

Depends if you are including the sick notes, e.g. Lee, Hooper, Abdi and Winnall. If we are then its pretty straight for me.

Westwood

Palmer Lees Hector Pudil

Lee Bannan Hutchinson Reach

Hooper or FF Fletcher

Subs: Dawson, FF, Joao, Thorniley, Winnall, Abdi

Same as this for me but possibly Fletcher instead of Joao..... unless of course Lee and/or Hooper somehow became available...

Looks like Carlos’ Boys Part IV....

TBH I think Penney and Thorniley are worth their places in a formation that makes sense. Like all the players, including Bannan and Reach, they have been made to look confused at times as has the whole team a la Brentford, Norwich (and IMHO) at the Stain.

Yes agreed

For me they've looked confused because of all the chopping and changing. Thorniley maybe at left cb with Hector forward into Hutchinson's role but Pelupessy too often a passenger,  Fox not good enough, the other youngsters not yet good enough and Nuhiu inconsistent at best.

Assuming everyone was fit and available -:

                  Westwood

         Lees Hector Thorniley

 Mattias Hutch Bannan Reach

                     FF

         Fletcher Hooper

Somethibg like this, possibly with Joao for Fletch.

Either way a strong bench with Joao/Fletch, Winnall, Joey, Penney, Pudil, Palmer and Dawson/Wildsmith

(Lee the only player sadly not returning)

Hutch’s future is surely as a coach

I would prefer

                    Westwood

  Palmer Lees Hector Thorniley Penney

              Reach Onomah Bannan

                     Fessi Joao

Bruce will prefer (in my humble but correct opinion)

                   Westwood

      Palmer Lees  Thorniley Boyd

                      Hector

      Fessi Onomah Bannan Reach

                     Fletcher

Sadly - sold or unsold, I just don’t expect to see Hoops Lee Abdi or Hutch to be sufficiently fit ever again to command what you might call a first team spot.

Amazed at some of the suggestions on this thread!

For starters I think Lee, Hooper and Abdi can be completely discounted. I doubt we’ll ever see them again.

Also depends which formation. I’ve read Bruce has gone mostly with 4-2-3-1 in recent times so in that basis I’d go with

Westwood

Palmer

Lees

Hector

Pudil

Hutchinson

Onomah

Reach

Bannah

Forestieri

Fletcher

Left back is the trickiest choice cos I’m not sure any of our current options are really up to it.

Theres also no doubt in my mind that Bannan is at his best when playing further forward so I’d like to see him in that advanced three. Him, Forestieri and Reach are arguably our three most talented players so give them license to make things happen from those roles.

what I’d also be keen to try personally is a 3-4-3 with Lees-Hector-Pudil as the back three, Boyd-Hutchinson-Bannan-Reach across the middle and Matias-Fletcher-Forestieri up front. It’s a bold formation but I think we’d score plenty of goals and win more than we have been lately!

I think there’s still a very good team in that squad if we can stay injury free and pick a settled XI for once.
