It's because the majority of fans think we're entitled to winning by playing nice football.

We're going to have to fight our way out of this mess, and the last four years has been a diversion which has brought back the old dillusions. We're no longer a big club, because it's all about money today, not the number of fans you have.

That's really sad, but it's the truth.

The answer to your post in one word

MEGSON.

OPs spot on.

There's no comparison

the players today live and act like superstars and perform like  average sunday league players.  They EXPECT and have little if any understanding of reality.
Pampered little babies who from an early age have had their backsides kissed and molly coddled, in the hope that they'll be another pay day for some agent or other.

The games totally different today. In the 70's you'd see the players walk up to the training ground and then stop at the café at parkside road / lepp traffics lights and have a fry up
If they weren't in the park hotel or travellers. lol

before heading back to the ground.  ( I lived on Vere Rd ) Knew all the players because we'd play football in the ground against the turnstiles ( get chased off by Ron the caretaker  lol)

and lived and breathed the club as a kid. The players were everyday normal blokes, not pampered pets, scared of getting their hair wet.  yes, there were bad days then, but the players, used to at least give it a shot...

crap as they were at times. The Jimmy Mullens, Eric Potts Willie Henderson's etc etc

But this lot today... THOUSANDS per week !!   For what ? They think they've done their bit if they spray a pass across field once a game.

Sky... Sky have ruined the game.... A simple flippingpass... is... BRILLIANT  FANTASTIC... FFS...it's a cross field pass, not a ten man walk round and into the net.
Anyone that has a decent game these days is catapulted into superstardom by the press.... #seanflair

But we are fed it, it's what we have.... and todays players should be BETTER, than the 70's.. THEY ARE NOT.  Effort is non existent at times these days.

This shower of sheite that abuse our badge and take the disgusting amounts of money, are taking the pi55 out of us all.

The lack of effort put forward by this bunch recently is disgusting. You'd think they'd have some pride.... There's not a shred of pride amongst them. Wimps.
Play the game...walk off, don't give a throw, yet pretend they do...grab the badge etc...what a load of crap... all for show, and the possibility of a new contract
It's all show...lets be seen to try...  almost coached by the agents, I'm sure.
The only player that had some pride and drive was Hutch... so what's happening there ?  This clown of a Chairman...manager ...ceo.... bench him... WTF ??!!!!

The clubs being destroyed by greed and utter mismanagement, Doyens influence has blinded a naïve chairman and they've fleeced him.
They've fleeced us, and many more clubs and fans....in the hope that we can get to the premiership...and exist for one season.

Give me the 70's

And the fishcakes were better at the chip shop too.

It was bloody terrible.

In 74-75 season we went that long without scoring we started celebrating when we won a corner.

I was there when we finally scored in April against Oxford (I think). Just over 7,000 there. The kop mob split into left and right and scrapped to relieve boredom....: and we scored. Anyone would have thought we’d won the cup.

Truly terrible times but bizzarly, fond memories of a poo era.

We can't keep going back to the 70s. A lot of our supporters weren't born then.

What's happening now is the worse for them. Our shîte team thing is a generational issue.

A lot weren’t born in the 1990’s, but it won’t stop me referring to the best football that I’ve seen at Hillsborough.

I was at that game too, we had gone a while since seeing us score at Hillsborough. Our previous goal being in this game......

Sat 14 Dec OLDHAM ATHLETIC......... 1-1 13,339 Bobby Brown

We had only scored once away as well since turn of year and that was in a 2-1 midweek defeat at Fulham when probably very few fans travelled.
