Don't think anyone's standards have dropped. It's just that in reality none of these managers would leave their current jobs to take the Wednesday job. Were a couple of them to be sacked they may  consider it but none of them are likely to be any time soon.

Its a salvage job,not many will fancy taking it on,we went for it and its blown up in our face,tough times ahead.

Not much point in looking for scapegoats weve all got to stick together.

None of the managers on that list would  put their reputations or egos on the line for a club with no money to spend,with an ageing injury ridden squad and the toxic atmosphere inside the ground

• Sean Dyce -  got Burnley up,  kept them up & then got them into Europe. Burnley fans want him out so he could be available soon. My number 1 choice - we could potentially be in the Champions League in 5 years, maybe less. 
• David Wagner - got Huddersfield up and kept them up. In the play offs at Hillsborough he must have wished he was the manager of the other team with our passionate fans and depth of squad at the time.
• Eddie Howe - got Bournemouth up and has kept them up. Almost an established Prem team now but he must be sick of managing in front of 7,000 fans each week.
• Chris Houghton - got Brighton up and kept them up. Does't play the best football but he could do with more creative players and supporters who demand nothing less.
• Rafa Benitiz - got Newcastle up and kept them up. Only a matter of time before the poo hits the fan up there. The only one I would question we could get because he's a bit older and more likely to move to a Watford or Everton.... unless he thinks he's got one more big job in him.

 

All the above have got teams out of the championship and then also kept them up but their personal projects must be coming to an end where they are now and they will be looking for a change soon and the lure of a big club like ours could persuade them.

 

Or we could just get Gary Megson.

I’m guessing you’re new this footballing lark...and especially SWFC. 

Expect none of these names and brace yourself for a Bob Peeters type appointment.

What I would say to the OP get yourself a copy of last season championship manager scroll through the Romanian, Polish, Albanian league for a team that finish in the bottom of the table and they sacked their manager. They see if this manager has a track record of not staying longer than a season or two at every team if the answer is yes then there is a chance we will get him. If its no, or he has achieve anything in the last 6 years it will be a no from DC.

Don't be daft yer wazak. Those 2 are obviously out of our reach... as are a few of the other elite managers at Man U, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal etc... I'm not deluded. Just a realist.

 

The ones I highlighted  (except Rafa which I now admit probably shouldn't have been included on the list) must feel that they have gone as far as they can with their current clubs and the only way they will ever crack the top 4 is by moving to a bigger club and if that is by moving down a league to a sleeping giant then so be it. They are clever men and will see the potential.

 

The fact is they're not going to get a job at one of the current top 6 clubs, so which other clubs are there in the premier league they could go to in order to better themselves, compete for the title and manage in the champions league, which must surely be their dream? They share our dream. None of the other clubs are bigger than us. Fact. That league is full of crappy little tinpot clubs with small fan bases and lego built stadia.

 

C'mon man. Look at it in the cold light of day. I repeat: Burnley, Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Brighton. Do you really think these managers I've suggested that we go after have reached the pinnacle of their career or ever will with those clubs?? 

 

What are their other options? Southampton, Cardiff, Leicester, Palace, Fulham, Wolves... the list goes on. None of them have the pull of Wednesday and we should easily be able to sell ourselves that we are a better option than all of those.

 

They've all got a proven track record of getting out of this division and then staying up. That is what we need and should push the boat out to get one of them.

It's not the 70s. Having a good support doesn't matter nowadays since most of a clubs revenue is TV money.

 

Everyone would rather manage Bournemouth over Wednesday at the minute.

You do realise there are clubs outside of England? Wagner has already turned down the Wolfsburg job and will have the pick of any Bundesliga club he likes when he leaves Huddersfield, all of whom are a damn sight bigger and better than we are.

 

Also, you're massively overrating how good an option we are. Managers (rightly) couldn't give a throw how many fans follow us away every week, all they're bothered about is the size of the budget and the stability of the club behind the scenes. We're dreadful on both of those scores. So yes, if we were someone like Derby or Bristol I could perhaps see your pont, though I still doubt any of those you've mentioned would drop back down to the Championship.
