The only fool is you - 'they're' is a contraction of the words 'they are' so Flat Owl is entirely correct in this case. Go and stand in the corner facing the wall with your dunces cap on.

There are millions of people throughout the world who have tried their best but have ultimately been sacked because they're incompetent & keeping them in the job will cause untold harm to the company they work for.

.

How many incompetents have been kept in jobs, and caused untold harm, without being sacked? Unions ensured this regularly.

Who is your English Teacher, Eastleigh.

Yes, 'their'  is a determiner, or pronoun as we were taught, and in the title, perfectly correctly used in the SECOND instance.

In the first instance, 'their'  is used as a shortened form  of the verb ' ARE', the begining being a shortened  for of 'they are' and as such is replaced by the apostrophy.

Sorry to be pedantic. It was driven into me by my rather pedantic English Mistress.

Is Eastleigh Owl the name of a horse because it surely has blinkers on.

There is a saying about coffee, waking up and smelling.

When I woke up, I was smelly and needed to grab a coffee.

Mind you, I was fishing on Friday and didn’t bother getting showered yesterday. Just dossed about the house all day, never went out, so it hardly seemed worth taking a shower.

Love stinky days dossing around the house.

Jos is probably the only Owls manager that I have zero feelings about, he’s a good example of the paradox, ‘an enigma wrapped in a contradiction’.

That’s a lot of words you’ve used there simply to say he’s shybo

Grammar cop on duty here....

Amazing how many on here don't know the difference between they're, their, there.

Simple lesson.

They're can be used if you can substitute 'they are' instead.   The ' denotes the missing a.

Their denotes possession ( eg their property).

There denotes position/placement.   eg over there, take it there.

So "They're all sat in their car over there".

They're isn't even pronounced the same as the other two words.
