the frog
Legend for Wheenie isn’t the word . I first did a away game to port vale in 75/76 on a night game , we were a gang of kids on the flats on Andover street in Pitsmoor we’re Alan lived with his mum and dad, opposite the signpost pub , we were kids , Alan had started work at Firth Brows where his dad worked and we all looked up to him because he was working, massive ( no pun intended) and looked after us . Names like Bathtub, Shirdie and pebbles myself the youngest looked up to Alan . Loads of away days and loads of skirmishers later he was still the idol , Charlton away and return coach midnight he looked after us all Wheenie was way more than a legend Rest in peace big guy my condolences to Alan’s family

I heard he was reading a paper on his own in a pub down the wicker and about 10 of the scum bags surrounded him and practically beat him to a pulp. The Wednesday 71
Can't remember the year but we had just beaten the piggies at home and a few of us were making our way (loudly) back to the travs along leppings lane with a police escort when we came across a few gobshite pigs abusing fellow owls at the end of bickerton rd, they decided to mouth at the wrong un! "Alright with coppers wiv yer" one said ....que Wheenie...straight up to him "don't need no coppers pal" with his immense fist drawn back! The tvvat literally turned to jelly! Much laughter and pointing ensued! Back in 93 at Wembley I remember being outside a boozer we had been at all day doing the conga to "we are the Wednesday boys" with Wheenie leading the way and me next in line....it was like hanging on to a Sheffield corporation bus!... haha! Top lad! RIP AL!
