S72 Owl Posted November 23, 2018 Share Posted November 23, 2018 The key to this formation working is Reach playing a bit deeper than he has done all season. Him and Bannan working as a unit with Hector behind. I think Hector should be playing in midfield, but our cover at CB is poor. The only difference is I'd favour Pellupessy starting ahead of Lees, purely because of the mistakes that Lees has made this season and I think Hector is a better lead CB than Lees, its sad to say. I agree that Bannan and Reach will have to move the ball forward through midfield as a Team, Pellupessy just needs to keep his eyes pealed for when thinks break down. The club could not have spent more money on a front three than FF, Fletch and MM so they owe the club and the fans a performance. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
snaykz Posted November 23, 2018 Share Posted November 23, 2018 I understand the calls for Hector to play in midfield, but I think he’s more valuable to us at centre back. I’d go with a 4-4-2 to make us a bit more solid, by not requiring our full backs to get forward quite so much. Full backs to prioritise defending with the occasional forward run; wide midfielders to prioritise attacking but tackle back when possible. It’s a close call between Lees, Thornily and Pudil for the other centre back spot alongside Hector, but I’d probably go for something like this: There’s plenty of energy in that midfield, with Forestieri and Reach given licence to swap flanks if things aren’t working out for them. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

However, after the Norwich debacle it's clear he needs to play at CB as any pairing without him is likely to be a disaster. I'd prefer to see him paired consistently with Pudil now as I think Pudil has the nouse to cover and let Hector attack the ball or bring it out of defence. Pudil isn't bad with his passing either.
