Jimmy Seed - BBC article

Recommended Posts

Jimmy was our double-winning captain when we won the title in the Twenties. Had heard his name, but didn't realise how badly he suffered in the First World War.

There's a really well produced article about him and footballers during the war on the BBC website...

I knew a bit about Jimmy,I read an article as a kid about the "Great Escape" but I didnt know about the rest, fascinating read that and a  great insight into the life of a former Owls hero and his life both before and after his time with us.Really enjoy reading stuff like this.

Great article. Also, pretty sure that the BBC did a drama/documentary about his life about 30 years ago focussing mainly on his war exploits and struggle to get fit and healthy again.

I even remember one of the lines from this drama:

“Them boots are four sizes too big”.

”Stuff em wi newspaper, then”

Brilliant. Wish he’d reincarnate and sign for us again.

The away end at Charlton is named after Jimmy. Must have been in that stand four or five times and never realised.

There was a piece on the local news in London about him, with a picture of him next to the trophy when we won the league...
